Gen.G sign former Cloud9 CSGO players autimatic, koosta, daps

South Korean esports organization Gen.G have announced their entrance into Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with the acquisition of three Cloud9 players. Riflers Timothy “autimatic” Ta and Keneth “koosta” Suen, along with in-game leader Damian “daps” Steele, will be the team’s first players after exiting from the multiplayer first-person shooter in 2017.

Gen.G adds autimatic, koosta, daps

“Bittersweet moment for me,” autimatic wrote on Twitter. “I want to thank everyone who supported me during my time on Cloud9 and I hope you’ll support me in this new journey with Gen.G. Super excited for this opportunity.”

Initial rumors floated around the community in early November about Gen.G’s interested in the three Cloud9 core players. The team aims to bring home “another Major to North America”, but they’ll certainly have their work cut out for them. With the competition of world ranking teams like Team Liquid and Evil Geniuses, the former Cloud9 roster has not been able to find the same success it did years ago.

Along with autimatic, koosta, and daps, former Cloud9 assistant coach Christopher “Elmapuddy” Tebbit will also move to Gen.G in the head coach position. The two remaining players have not been revealed, but some in the community offered guesses that it could be Team EnVy player Sam “s0m” Oh.

Cloud9’s future in CSGO

However, Cloud9 does not plan to disband its CSGO roster. With Óscar “mixwell” Cañellas left on the roster, Cloud9 head coach James “JamezIRL” Macaulay stated in a November video that he would be able to rebuild the team from the ground up. He also said that autimatic and daps requested to be transferred themselves. Cloud9 is well known for its first-place win at 2018’s ELEAGUE Major in Boston – it being the only Major win ever for a North American team.

Since that win, Jacky ‘Jake’ “Stewie2K” Yip now plays for Team Liquid, Will “RUSH” Wierzba for Complexity Gaming, along with coach Soham “valens” Chowdhury and Tarik “tarik” Celik on Evil Geniuses. Tyler “Skadoodle” Latham has retired, with autimatic remaining as the last player of that star roster.

Gen.G is known for its League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) team and Overwatch League franchise with the Seoul Dynasty. The organization’s PUBG team also recently took the win at the PUBG Global Championship. Can Gen.G do what they are saying?
