South Korean esports organization Gen.G announced it has signed former Team EnVy player Sam “s0m” Oh to its Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster. This news comes shortly after the team also revealed it had acquired players Timothy “autimatic” Ta, Damian “daps” Steele, Kenneth “koosta” Sue, and coach Chris “Elmapuddy” Tebbit from Cloud9.

Gen.G acquire s0m
“Oooooh yeah, baby, with that being said… excited for the future with this squad,” s0m said in a Twitter post.
As initially guessed by fans, the 17-year-old will be the fourth player on the Gen.G roster. He transitions to the new team after competing for Team Envy for almost nine months, with previous roles on Naventic, Complexity Gaming, Test Takers, and Old Guys Club.
S0m has helped Team Envy qualify for events like 2019’s DreamHack Masters Malmö and Intel Extreme Masters XIV – Chicago. However, the team hasn’t seen much success at these actual events, with mostly bottom half bracket placements. This includes a 13 – 16th placement in Season 9 and 9 – 10th in Season 10 of ESL Pro League Americas.
The Korean American player entered the competitive scene after he showed great performance in the ESEA Rank S league, along with the FACEIT Pro League later on. The former league consists of Rank S players competing in an invite-only environment for a $370,000 prize pool split among regions. While it is open to anyone with the minimum skill level, it is filled with many professional players, which led to his recognition.
Experience in CSGO
Still, s0m doesn’t have much experience in the scene compared to veteran players like autimatic on the new Gen.G roster. He averaged a 0.95 rating on LAN with 32.3% of maps won in 2019. In the same announcement, Gen.G revealed that former Complexity Gaming player Hunter “SicK” Mims will serve as a stand-in for the IEM Katowice event.
The team has still not revealed its fifth player, but rumors have pointed to TYLOO in-game leader Hansel “BnTeT” Ferdinand.
