Golden Guardians swap Keith to the support role for LCS

North American esports organization Golden Guardians announced they have swapped Yuri “Keith” Jew from his previous AD carry position to a support role instead. The 22-year-old will also be promoted from Golden Guardians Academy to the main League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) lineup.

From AD carry to the support role

While Keith has been competing as an AD carry for most of his career, he held the support role at one point several years ago. Other successful League of Legends players like Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in and Zaqueri “Aphromoo” Black have also made the shift from AD carry. However, his promotion to the main LCS lineup means there is even more of an emphasis on his experience with the new role.

And Keith does have quite a bit of experience. He started competing in League of Legends in 2014 with Team Gyrations. He later moved on to Team LoL Pro, Team Liquid Academy, Team Solo Mid (TSM), Cloud9 Challenger, Counter Logic Gaming Black, and the now-disbanded team Echo Fox. Keith then returned to Cloud9, where he competed for a year before being demoted to Cloud9 Academy. He spent nearly two years on the academy roster before joining Golden Guardians’ Academy roster for the 2019 Summer Split.

Keith to Golden Guardians main roster

During his first split with the new team, the Golden State Warriors affiliate went on to place 1st in the North American Academy Summer Split. However, they were bested by 100 Thieves’ Academy roster in the Summer Split Playoffs.

Keith’s promotion comes shortly after former Royal Youth jungler Can “Closer” Çelik and former Cloud9 mid-laner Greyson “Goldenglue” Gilmer joined the roster. Top laner Kevin “Hauntzer” Yarnell and Victor “FBI” Huang have chosen to remain with the team for 2020. Head coach Jimmy “Jimmy” Harrison and Academy coach Nick “Inero” Smith have also switched positions.

While it may take some time getting used to the new position, the Golden Guardians also have Kim “Olleh” Joo-sung and Choi “Huhi” Jae-hyun in the support role.
