Golden Guardians to bring LATAM Newbie and CLG Stixxay to bot lane

Golden Guardians are reportedly looking to pick up All Knights support player Leandro “Newbie” Marcos. They are also in talks with current Counter Logic Gaming ADC Trevor “Stixxay” Hayes. If confirmed, this bot lane may be one of the most unpredictable duo that the LCS may see for the upcoming year.

Newbie headed to North America

LATAM fans recognize Argentinian-native 23-year old Newbie as the best support player throughout the entire region. He began playing professionally in 2015 with Chilean team Dark Horse. After a short-lived run, he left to play for Isurus Gaming until 2019. He was also loaned out to All Knights in 2018, playing for the team full-time after November 2019. He’s not the only LATAM player headed to the United States for League of Legends. Rainbow7’s Brandon “Josedeodo” Villegas is also rumored to join FlyQuest for the 2021 season.

Overall, Newbie is the first LATAM player who has reached Challenger rank in the Korean server with a very impressive track record. He helped carry All Knights to first place in the LLA 2020 Opening and Closing seasons, as well as the 2019 Opening season. Before the LLA merge, he found himself winning top rank in the 2017 Latin America South Cup with Isurus Gaming. He’s never played in North America, so this is a huge opportunity for him to show the LCS his true potential in NA as a support player.

Stixxay to joint Golden Guardians

Stixxay, on the other hand, has had a few rough patches in the past year. The last time he saw first place with CLG was back in the LCS 2016 Spring Playoffs when they went 3-2 against TSM. Since then, the team has barely reached top ranks in the LCS. Although he’s been with CLG since 2015, joining Golden Guardian’s bot lane may be the much-needed change that will push him to improve his performance for 2021.

At the moment, Golden Guardians have plans to rebuild their brand and their team from the ground up. The organization experienced a financial loss during COVID-19, and had to let go of their current roster. Since then, they’ve been on the hunt for new faces to bring to the LCS in hopes that the team will outperform current top NA talent.
