Griffin dominates SKT T1 in LCK Week Three
It looks like SKT T1 still has some work to do if they want to make their LCK redemption arc a reality. The Korean superteam has fallen to Griffin in a lopsided two games this week.

Griffin looks like the best team in Korea at the moment, and for good reason. For example, the team is coming off an impressive 2-0 week against Hanwha Life Esports and Damwon Gaming. Also, they are currently undefeated in the LCK. This is similar to the start they had in the 2018 Summer Split, where they would dominate the early part of the season. Although it is early in the spring, they look poised to take over the league and beyond.
Meanwhile, SKT T1 hasn’t been living up to the title of a superteam in the past couple of weeks. Last week, they dropped their series against SANDBOX Gaming, and they even dropped a game against Damwon Gaming. Right now, they might not even be the second best team in the region. Luckily, it is still early in the season for SKT so they can afford to make a few mistakes. They will have to learn plenty from them if they want to make it to the Mid-Season Invitational this year.
Griffin stomps SKT T1
Today’s matches weren’t even close from SKT T1 and Griffin. In game one, Griffin would completely take over the game and not look back. SKT wouldn’t secure a single kill for themselves, or a turret for that matter. They seemed outmatched throughout the two games, especially on the top side of the map. Their drafts were equally as confusing. SKT would opt to put one of their best players, Park “Teddy” Jin-seong, on mage champions instead of ADC’s. The decision fell through in both games, as Teddy could not utilize the same mechanics that helped him destroy lane weeks prior.
On the other side of the Rift, Griffin was clicking on all cylinders. The fiery young roster did not miss a beat, taking down SKT with great team fights and picturesque macro skills. Additionally, mid lane prodigy Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon has finally hit a 104 KDA for the season. That is a wild number, as he has only died once in his past ten games. He and his teammates may be ushering in a new era for the South Korean League of Legends scene. At the same time, the older veterans may need to catch up in order to stay relevant.
Final Thoughts
If we look at last season, both teams were in similar situations. Yes, SKT T1 had an infinitely worse roster than they do this year. However, the fact remains that they still need to build more synergy with each other. This exact Griffin roster has been playing with each other for multiple seasons. It makes sense that they will dominate early, as many other teams are still trying to improve their coordination with new teammates. With time, SKT should fix their underlying problems and start dominating once again. Once that happens, a peak form SKT T1 against a peak Griffin squad should be a treat to watch for any League of Legends fan.
