Guest characters have become a mainstay in fighting games. From Soul Calibur to Tekken, and of course Smash Bros., it is almost expected for new fighting games to bring the heat in the guest department. Mortal Kombat is no exception to this, and it has been having great guest appearances since Mortal Kombat (9) in 2011. The last game in the franchise, Mortal Kombat XL, featured such guests as Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th, the Predator, and a Xenomorph from Aliens. Naturally, with Mortal Kombat 11 on the horizon, one of the most talked about subjects is who will make the cut this time around to throw down with the kombatants.
We have a list of five characters that we would like to see make an appearance in the game. Some might actually happen, some are far flung hopes, and some are… well, they would just be really funny, honestly.
Todd McFarlane’s ’90s edgelord supreme has been requested to appear in a Mortal Kombat title since MK9, and demand has not slowed down. Especially since his less-than-stellar appearance in Soul Calibur II… This time though it looks like it may actually happen. Recently Todd held a Reddit AMA, and one of the first questions to pop up brought up this very subject.
While Todd may just be blowing smoke, it would seem odd for him to basically confirm something with there being nothing behind it. But we have heard nothing on the matter from Warner Bros., so hopefully something will come of it and we can see Spawn in his fully caped glory…
Mortal Kombat has been host to some of horror’s greatest icons including Freddy Kreuger, Jason Voorhees, and Leatherface. And it would only make sense to keep the tradition going and bring in another heavy hitter of horror, Pennywise the Dancing Clown from Stephen King’s magnum opus, It. Plus, with It: Chapter Two coming out this year, it would present a great promotional opportunity.
Continuing the horror theme, having one of horror’s few heroic characters wouldn’t be a bad idea either. Ash is well known for his gruesome, over-the-top kills, and he would fit right at home delivering — and receiving — the pain in Mortal Kombat 11. Of course, the man himself Bruce Campbell would have to voice the character in game, or otherwise what is the point?
While there have been rumors of Doomguy making an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, many people, myself included, doubt his appearance in that game considering his *ahem* adult-oriented origin. But Mortal Kombat? Everything Doomguy does is not only allowed, but it is encouraged! Doomguy is probably the only video game character whose levels of over-the-top gratuitous violence would make even the kombatants go, “That is a little much, dude.”
It wouldn’t be a Mortal Kombat game without a god entering the ring, would it? In all seriousness though, a petition came out a little while ago asking for Shaggy from Scooby-Doo to make an appearance. Why? Well, for the greatest reason of all — the memes. The “Shaggy is a god” meme has been the internet’s new meme of the month and someone thought it would be a good idea to get this petition started. But the internet loves being in on a joke, and that petition now has over 275,000 signatures! Even Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon has responded to the topic.
Let me know how that works out for you… https://t.co/0da0D4GJte

Not to be outdone, the Shagster himself, Matthew Lillard, has chimed in.

Warner Bros. has creative control of both Scooby-Doo and Mortal Kombat, so “technically” it could be done, but it is obviously very unlikely. I think the best we can hope for is a Shaggy alternate costume for, like, Johnny Cage or something. But hey, a guy can dream, can’t he?
