Today, on the 20th anniversary of Xbox, the Halo team confirmed that Halo Infinite’s multiplayer mode is now live on Xbox and PC. The Halo Infinite campaign will release along with the full game on Dec. 8.

An evolved beta

Originally, Halo Infinite was set to release in 2020. However, like many games in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic led to unforeseen delays in its development. Players first got their hands on an early version of Halo Infinite between late July to early Aug. of 2021. These games were limited to 4v4 Slayer games, and only to specific members of the Halo Insiders program. After more development, the date of Nov. 15 became a likely release date. Of course, now the multiplayer is out with a beta mode including full access to maps and weapons, and the campaign is to release on Dec. 8.

Season 1: Heroes of Reach

This first season of Halo Infinite’s multiplayer is titled Heroes of Reach, based on a location in the Halo universe. This first season, along with a premium Battle Pass, shows off rewards players can earn to customize their Spartan.

Much like previous Halo multiplayer modes, customization is a big focus. According to the Halo team on Twitter, “all of your Battle Pass progression, Spartan customization and shop purchases will carry over from the beta to the full release.” While this is a beta of the multiplayer, the progress players have doesn’t reset when the game releases in Dec. This season ends in May of 2022, giving players who start now or at launch plenty of time to progress.

This beta version of Halo Infinite’s multiplayer is live on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. And finally, for those who get a blue screen upon launching the game, the Halo team is working on a fix for it.

Polish-Canadian game enthusiast. I've been entrenched in gaming as long as I can remember, with my first ever game being Pokemon Yellow and my most played game being Borderlands 2 (3000+ hours). Some other key favourites of mine are Transistor and Night in the Woods, but I spend stupid amounts of time playing Overwatch. I have a BA Honors in Film Studies, and want to continue to be part of film, gaming and writing.
