Riot Games Korea Country Manager Park Jun-Kyu passed away due to liver cancer on Jan. 9. He was known to the League of Legends community as Jaysen Park.
Park had joined Riot Games in 2014 after moving on from his role at South Korean entertainment company CJ E&M. In his previous position, he was the global business team leader for 3 years. After his time there, he joined Riot Games’ Korean division as their Director of Publishing. Exactly one year ago, he accepted the role of Head of Riot Games Korea. During this year, Park oversaw broadcasts of the LCK along with the reveal of Riot’s new upcoming games.
The Riot community comes together
Throughout the previous year of battling his medical illness, he chose to carry on his responsibilities. No word has been given on who will take over Park’s role. This is a busy time of year, with the beginning of the new season of League of Legends. Many events are expecting to unfold as the LCK will begin its spring season on Feb. 5.
As the news broke out on social media, the Reddit community paid their respects to Park. One Riot Games employee wrote: “Jaysen was a great man. Leading Riot efforts in Korea with high integrity and passion. It has been an honor working with him. Our prayers go to his family. Rest In Peace.”
Big contributions to Riot Games music
Toa Dunn, head of Riot Music, posted a few words on his relationship with Park. He revealed how much of an impact Park had on their biggest hits, including with K/DA and their newest track, “Warriors.”
… I don’t have the words to express how much positive impact Jaysen Park had on our team (Riot Music). Worlds 2014 (imagine Dragons) and Worlds 2018 (K/DA) was possible because of him. You will always be remembered and forever a part of our team! 💔 https://t.co/sOsUpmUiIr
