The first chapter of Hearthstone‘s newest adventure mode, Galakrond’s Awakening, is now live. The first week will be free for everyone, but players will need to purchase the expansion to play future chapters.
Galakrond’s Awakening
Galakrond’s Awakening is the story of Arch-Villain Rafaam’s plan to resurrect the dragon, Galakrond. The League of Explorers must protect the world from Rafaam’s plans to take over. Players will play the story mode as both the League of E.V.I.L. and the League of Explorers.
The adventure will place players in a series of strategic challenges. These challenges will require the player to use decks given to them, or create decks to take on heroes and battles that are vastly different from the standard Hearthstone experience.
While the adventure’s first chapter is free to play, additional chapters will cost $6.99 or 700 in-game gold. The entire adventure, which consists of all four chapters, can also be purchased for $19.99. Each week, a new chapter will be unlocked.
Worthy rewards
The adventure doesn’t come without a prize. Players will receive new exclusive cards for defeating different parts of the adventure. The full adventure contains four new legendary cards, four new epic cards, 12 new rare cards, and 15 new common cards for a total of 35 new cards.
Each battle will award players one new card, and the big battles will award two cards. These cards will be usable in ranked play and will be released with each new chapter. If this adventure is like those from the past, players will be able to disenchant these cards for extra dust.
This is the first adventure mode in Hearthstone to feature exclusive cards since the One Night in Karazhan expansion was released on August 11, 2016. These adventures received a mixed response from the community in the past because many players did not want to have cards locked behind a paywall.
