Mass outbreaks make everything a little bit easier in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Looking to shiny hunt? Wait for a mass outbreak. Need to complete a Pokédex entry for a specific Pokémon? Wait for a mass outbreak. Here’s everything you need to know about the random phenomenon.

Mass outbreaks are a phenomenon where a larger number of the same Pokémon appear in the same location at the same time. We found a mass outbreak with nearly a dozen Chimchar in the Obsidian Fieldlands. An alpha Infernape was also present.

How to find mass outbreaks

Mass outbreaks are random events that happen both during the main adventure and in the post-game of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. You’ll be notified of their occurrence right before you leave the main village. You’ll see an icon for the Pokémon having a mass outbreak on the map before you choose your destination, as well.

Once you’ve left the main village, you’ll find another indicator of where a mass outbreak is taking place on your map. It’ll show you the exact location of where to fly to once you’re past the loading screen.

Mass outbreaks are useful because they often include a shiny Pokémon. This outbreak included an off-color Chimchar, for example. Outbreaks are also good for catching many of one Pokémon type, defeating many of one Pokémon type or completing almost any number of research tasks for a specific Pokémon.
