How the Scorestreak system works in Black Ops Cold War multiplayer

The Scorestreak system is being completely reworked in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer. Developer Treyarch has changed up the game once again and the jury is still out on the new system. While only content creators have had access to the game, there have been mixed feelings about Treyarch’s decision. Scorestreaks now continue past death and that means that you don’t need to go on a streak in order to earn a Scorestreak. However, there are some intricacies within the system. Let’s check out the Scorestreaks in Black Ops Cold War and how they work.

Along with the newly designed system, we have confirmation on a plethora of streaks within multiplayer. We were able to see around eight in action during the alpha capture event last week. However, there are reportedly several more currently in development that has all but been confirmed by Treyarch.

Below, you can see the confirmed streaks within BOCW multiplayer.

  • RC-XD – 600 score
  • Spy Plane – 800 score
  • Artillery – 1900 score
  • Napalm Strike – 2400 score
  • Air Patrol – 2750 score
  • War Machine – 3150 score
  • Attack Helicopter – 3750 score
  • Chopper Gunner – 6000 score

Each of these streaks was shown off during the content creator’s gameplay. If the score values seem a bit high to you, you’re not alone. This is a result of the new system in Black Ops Cold War. Since streaks don’t reset upon death, the score values need to be extremely high to prevent players from continually earning them.

This is also combated with a cooldown timer. Each streak that we know of has a cooldown timer of 90 seconds. That means you can’t earn a streak after you’ve called it in before the 90-second timer is up.

Also a part of the scoring system, players are now rewarded for going on high streaks. Every kill you get up to 10 kills rewards you with a bonus score. So for example, if you get one kill, it’s worth 50 points. However, if you get a second kill in a row, you earn 100 points. This continues to go up the higher the streak you’re on, making 6000 score for a Chopper Gunner seem not so high.

As of right now, Treyarch doesn’t have any plans to lower the score values of the streaks. However, after the open beta releases on October 8, there could be some adjustments made.
