How to enable co-op multiplayer in Elden Ring

The world of Elden Ring can be an intimidating place, no matter which level you are in in the game. From random boss battles to hordes of enemies ready to rip you limb from limb, playing solo isn’t always the best way to play. For this reason, developer FromSoftware has given players the ability to turn on co-op multiplayer in Elden Ring.

Co-op is a bit convoluted in Elden Ring but, once players know what to do, they’ll be playing alongside their friends or even a random stranger in no time. For a full rundown of the steps to enable co-op multiplayer, continue reading below.

Turning on co-op in Elden Ring

First, you must decide whether you’re going to summon a player to your world or if you’re going to be the one summoned. Also, you need to figure out if you’re playing with a close friend who you can communicate with or if you just want to be paired with a random player.

If you want to play with a friend, follow the steps below to enable co-op:

• Craft a Furlcalling Finger Remedy if you want to summon your friend to your world
• Place a summoning sign with the Tarnished’s Furled Finger if you want to be the one getting summoned to your friend’s world
• Go to the main menu and select “multiplayer”
• Set a multiplayer password that you and your friend both know (your friend also needs to set this password)
• If you want to summon your friend, use the Furlcalling Finger Remedy after they place their summoning sign (and vice versa)
• Ensure that both of you do this in the same exact location (like outside of the mist to a boss battle)
• If you’re summoning your friend, look for their gold sign on the ground and interact with it, after you’ve used your Finger Remedy

 

If you’ve done everything right, your friend will appear in your world or vice versa. Remember, summoning a player is mostly meant for defeating an area boss, so make sure one is around before deciding to turn on co-op. If you want to play with a random stranger, you can skip setting a password and just place your summoning sign or use your Finger Remedy. You can craft more Finger Remedies through Item Crafting if you need more.

Finally, if you are a higher level than the friend you’re joining, your level will be scaled to theirs if you enter their world. So, if you’re expecting to help a friend beat Margit while you’re at Level 60, expect the fight to be a little more difficult.

If you’re fighting a boss with a friend and one of you dies, the fight will end. This will result in both of you needing to repeat the summoning process again. If you manage to beat the boss, the summoned player will be sent back to their world.

Co-op has may be a lot of work in Elden Ring, but it could be worth it if you need to defeat a boss.
