It’s the final day of a long and grueling 2020, and different festivities are beginning around the world. Today, Pokémon had a special Augmented Reality stream from the International Space Station. In Pokémon Sword and Shield, you can get a special Pikachu as a Mystery Gift to celebrate.

Here’s how you can claim the Pikachu for yourself in-game, and what makes it different than others.

How to get Pikachu as a Mystery Gift

To get the Pikachu, you will need a copy of either Pokémon Sword or Shield along with a Nintendo Switch Online membership. You also need to have at least one open space in your party or boxes. Once you are ready, here’s what you need to do:

  • Open your menu and select “Mystery Gift.”
  • Select “Get a Mystery Gift.”
  • Choose “Get via Internet.”
  • Select “KIBO’s Pikachu Gift.”

Once you claim your gift, the Pikachu will appear in the first available open space in your party or boxes.

What makes it special

There have been countless special Pikachus over the years in Pokémon, so what makes this one special? This Pikachu comes holding a Comet Shard, which sells for a nice price, and knows the moves Wish and Celebrate. Pikachu can only learn wish as an Egg move, and Celebrate is a unique move where Pikachu celebrates you by saying “Congratulations.” The move doesn’t do anything other than this.

Like with most gift Pokémon, this Pikachu comes in a Cherish Ball. The signature red and black Pokéball reserved for special Pokémon. It comes at level 21 and isn’t really useful outside of simply being festive. Nevertheless, if you wish to claim it, you have until January 15, 2021 to do so.

Be sure to claim your KIBO Pikachu gift while you can and stay tuned for more special Mystery Gifts and promotions in Pokémon Sword and Shield!
