How to get Turtwig in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

The second of three Sinnoh starters

After obtaining a Chimchar in the Obsidian Fieldlands, trainers can get their hands on Sinnoh starter Turtwig in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Unlike Chimchar, capturing Turtwig is not part of an in-game request.

Likewise, the Grass-type starter is a bit out of the way, so trainers might not come across one in the regular course of their gameplay. Nevertheless, here’s how trainers can hunt a Turtwig down and add it to their team in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

How to get Turtwig in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Trainers will be able to find a Turtwig in the game’s second main area, the Crimson Mirelands. It resides in a section known as Droning Meadow, located in the southeast section of the map.

If the player has already ventured to the Cobalt Coastlands and unlocked the ability to ride on Basculegion, then backtracking to the Crimson Mirelands and reaching Droning Meadow will be a fairly simple task. The player can simply travel to Ursa’s Ring and surf across a river to get there.

However, Basculegion is not necessary to reach the land on the other side of the river. With perfect positioning, the player can use Wyrdeer to jump over the river, land in the shallow water and safely make it to shore without drowning.

Otherwise, trainers can simply travel by land around the river. To do this, players should fast travel to the Diamond Settlement, head north to Lake Valor, then follow the water as far south as possible. While walking this route may take some time, it ensures the player can get their Turtwig in Pokémon Legends: Arceus before getting Basculegion, without the risk of messing up a long jump and drowning.

Where to find a Turtwig

Once the player reaches Droning Meadow in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, they can find Turtwig in an alcove at the southernmost point of the area. The Grass-type turtle will be situated at the back end of a small pond.

Generally, there is only one Turtwig there. As a result, trainers should be sure to sneak up on it so that it doesn’t run away before they can catch it. Otherwise, the trainer will have to leave the area and make the long trek back to Droning Meadow to try again.

Occasionally, an Alpha Grotle will accompany the Turtwig, so trainers should be wary. If players want to skip straight to the final evolution, they can find an Alpha Torterra in the Holm of Trials, toward the center of the southern end of the Crimson Mirelands.
