The Countdown Cup tournament starts on August 19, with four teams fighting for the season’s final tournament win. For the first time all year, Dallas and Shanghai won’t be competing. A new winner will be crowned for the first time in 2021.
One of these organizations—Atlanta, Seoul, Chengdu or Los Angeles—will take a big step forward on August 21 when the event concludes. This will be the first time that any of them win an Overwatch League championship.
The tournament plays the same way as the previous Hawaii-based tournaments with a double-elimination format. Here is an updated visual representation of which teams made it and what opponent they’re facing.

Back to Hawaii for the last time in 2021
With the knockout phase over, the four teams remaining are the Atlanta Reign and Los Angeles Gladiators from the West, and the Seoul Dynasty and the Chengdu Hunters from the East. Chengdu will take on Los Angeles, a match-up we have yet to see this year at 7:30 p.m. PDT on August 19. Atlanta will play Seoul at 8 p.m. PDT in another new matchup. The Hawaii tournament features a first to four map wins format.
The two losers will face each other on the second day, with the two winners playing after that. The Countdown Cup finals will be played on August 21, at 6 p.m. PDT.
These games will go late into the day due to some teams playing from Hawaii. Make sure to tune into the Overwatch League’s Countdown Cup on YouTube to see how the final tournament of the season plays out. These teams won’t play again until the playoffs in September.
