I Fought the Law quest guide | Cyberpunk 2077 Walkthroughs

One of the longest and deepest side quests in Cyberpunk 2077 is “I Fought the Law.” Unlike some of the shorter ones in the game, like Happy Together, I Fought the Law has a plot and multiple characters interwoven in its story. There are several characters in this quest that you’ll see throughout the main story, making this gig one of importance. However, since it’s so long, players are struggling with the decisions that need to be made. Luckily, we have a full quest guide for this job in Cyberpunk 2077.

Starting I Fought the Law in Cyberpunk 2077

In order to first receive this side quest, you’ll need to complete the main story mission “Life During Wartime.” After that, you will eventually receive a call from Elizabeth Peralez, who will ask you to meet with her and her husband.

The couple wants to discuss the mysterious death of Mayor Lucius Rhyne, which is a big story in Night City. Essentially, the Peralez’s believe Rhyne’s death was no accident, and they have a Braindance to further prove this point.

Once in the Braindance, you’ll be required to use the tips from previous dances to sift through the clip and find clues. Make sure to pay attention to the bar at the top of the screen to know what times to scan and which scans to use.

The Peralez’s will ask you what you thought about the dance after you exit from it. No matter what you say, they’ll insist that you stay on the case and call River Ward, a detective.

The first meeting with River Ward

Shortly after meeting with River, you’ll do one of two things. The first is meeting with River’s confidential informant, who tries to run away when you ask him some questions. He won’t escape, but he does end up divulging some information about the Red Queen’s Race club.

Next, you and River will travel to meet with Péter Horváth’s boss. Horváth was the man who attacked Mayor Rhyne, and Christine Markov, his boss, states that he believed many people were after him.

Once the conversation with Markov ends, you’ll find a couple of Tyger Claw gang members standing next to River’s car. If you chose the Street Kid lifepath, you can talk the Tyger Claws down. However, if you’re a Corpo or Nomad, fighting will break out. If you don’t want to fight, allow River to do the talking and you’ll eventually be on the way to the next location.

Entering the warehouse and Red Queen’s Race

The middle section of I Fought the Law requires you to enter a warehouse that River found out about from his CI. There’s no easy way into the warehouse though, so you’ll have to break in. Once you’re at the reception area, turn left and walk all the way to the end of the hallway. Turn the corner and find the stairs that lead to the vent. Crawl through the vent and shimmy up into the building above you. You can either fight the enemies that are waiting for you or use quick hacks to disable them.

Whatever you decide to do, afterward you’ll need to find the secret entrance to the Red Queen’s Race. Simply walk towards the yellow marker on your map, hop over the containers, then hop down and keep walking until you reach a container with yellow police tape on it. Open the doors of the container and use the elevator to head into the club.

Finishing up I Fought the Law

The next steps when you’re inside of the club are fairly self-explanatory. You’re looking for any information on the mayor and Detective Han, which ultimately leads to a Braindance headset lying on a couch. However, this ends up being a trap, as the headset harms V and leads us to believe that Mayor Rhyne was actually killed by this headset.

After this occurs, you check in with River and the two of you leave the club to talk to Detective Han. Essentially, there’s no trace that Han or Weldon Holt, the Deputy Mayor, had anything to do with the Mayor’s death. However, we know they’re likely guilty and River wants to see this through to the end.

Anything you say to River about the case won’t change his mind about pursuing Han and Holt. This is the last we see of River Ward until later on in the story.

Finally, the Peralez’s ask to speak with you up in their penthouse. You discuss the details of the case but can divulge as much or as little information as you want. There are three theories that the game concludes: the NCPD covered up the accident, Holt wanted the Mayor’s seat and murdered him, or the Braindance did Rhyne in.

The Peralez’s want to hear that Holt is the main suspect but go with whatever you feel is right. In the end, no matter what dialogue choice you pick, Elizabeth will thank you for your help and this will complete the quest.
