IEM Sydney was one of the best displays of CS:GO talent ever seen in Australia. This year’s IEM is now part of the history books. Team Liquid defeated Fnatic to take home their share of the $250,000 USD prize pool.

More than 150,000 fans around the world were tuned into the finals via Twitch. Spectators online and in the arena got their money’s worth as the grand final went to five maps. Each team traded wins back and forth as they reached the last map. Liquid were in a very promising spot to win, leading the map 14-4. Fnatic supporters prayed for the choke, and it almost came. Liquid lost a few in a row, making the fans nervous with a score of 14-9. But this was the year Liquid will break the drought! They pulled through, taking the map 16-9 and making them the winners of the world’s 75th IEM.

Nick Vanzetti, the MD & Senior Vice President of ESL APJ, congratulated Liquid on their win:

It’s great to have watched the 3rd year of IEM Sydney unfold, after showcasing the greatest esports players in the world here. The crowd here never disappoints, and we can’t ask for more than five entertaining maps in the Grand Final – congratulations to Team Liquid on what was a fantastic win!

The next IEM stop

IEM Sydney showcased one of the oldest rivalries in esports — North America vs. Europe. America prevailed this time around, but will the European teams come back fighting harder? Find out at the next IEM. The next destination on the IEM journey is Chicago, the home of the Bulls. Chicago is the perfect location to continue the rivalry dating back almost to the beginning of esports. There’s 75 days to go, and tickets are on sale now. Secure your spot today!
