The April 28 update for Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare season 4 brought a new gun into the game—the Bruen Mk9. This light machine gun originally went under the radar for a week or two, until a few pros and streamers clocked on to how devastating it actually can be.
Throughout June, streamers and pro players alike were picking up the new lightweight machine gun and getting impressive scores with it. Those who showcased their custom build for the Bruen include Vikram “Vikstar” Singh-Barn, Nick “Nicmercs” Kolcheff, Tim “TimtheTatman” Betar and most recently, Matt “Nadeshot” Haag.
Mk9 Bruen: best ways to unlock
However, there’s a catch for many players. This new gun isn’t available to all straight away. If you want the shiny Bruen that’s talked up as the best Warzone gun right now, you’re going to have to work (or pay for it). The true gamer way is to complete the unlock challenge, which involves killing three enemies in one game while using smoke grenades and an LMG seven times.
Not too difficult to do in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer. In that mode, you can simply hop into a team deathmatch with smokes and a thermal sight on your LMG.
However, it might be a bit of a tough task for a free Warzone-only player.
The other option then, is to fork out just over $10 (or 1000 CoD points from the Battle Pass). This will get you the Encryption bundle in the store, which comes with the Bruen Mk9 model “The Glitch,” plus the base gun and a load of other cosmetic content.
Why is the Bruen the best and what attachments do I need?
The Bruen Mk9 essentially takes the power of a light machine gun and, when customized correctly, combines it with the accuracy and maneuverability of an assault rifle.
In the eyes of many Warzone players, the Bruen has overtaken the Grau as the de facto best gun in the game. It does more base damage and drops off at a longer range (54 metres compared to 50). It is however, slightly less mobile and not quite as accurate at medium range as the Grau. To this end many players have paired the Bruen with an MP7. The Mp7 has a slightly longer range than the MP5, which is the popular pairing for the Grau right now.
There are many custom builds that are viable for the Bruen Mk9, but all of them are consistent on two things: you need the 60-round mags, which make the gun lighter and faster to reload; and you also want the XRK Summit 26.8″ barrel, which improves range and reduces recoil.
Aside from that, there’s no accepted “best” build just yet. Most streamers and pros have used the Monolithic Suppressor on it, but going in loud is also an option.
Should the Bruen be nerfed? Is Activision deliberately keeping a gun that’s best unlocked in the paid for Multiplayer mode as one of the better guns in free-to-play Warzone? Or do you have other ideas as to what the best gun in the game is right now? Let us know below.
