Riot Games announced that G2 Esports jungler Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski would be the 2019 League of Legends European Championship Summer Split Most Valuable Player. The LEC MVP award was given before Jankos helped the Berlin-based esports organization to defeat Fnatic in the LEC Summer Split Finals. G2 Esports has locked in their qualification spot to go to the 2019 World Championships in Europe.

Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski

Jankos began his competitive career after playing Warcraft III along with DOTA and decided to try out League of Legends in Season 1. He quickly drew praise for his high skill level and started competing in 2013 on Team Mistral. He proceeded to compete under organizations like GF Gaming, H2k Gaming, Kiedys Mialem Team, and Team ROCCAT.

While on H2k-Gaming, the roster went on to place 3 – 4th at the 2016 World Championships. However, the team didn’t manage to make it to the 2017 iteration of the same event, which marked his transition. Jankos then joined G2 Esports in December of 2017. The 2018 LEC Regular Season was his first year with the team, and G2 went on to place 2nd in the Spring Split and 4th in the Summer. The roster managed to make it to the 2018 Worlds Main Event after defeating FC Schalke 04 in the EU Regional Finals. However, they ended up losing to Invictus Gaming 0 – 3 and ended in 3 – 4th place.

Jankos most recently achieved 1000 kills in the EU LCS. He attained this merit on Sept. 8, 2019 and was the second to do so. The first goes to Fnatic bot laner Martin “Rekkles” Larsson.

G2 Esports in LEC

G2 Esports defeated fellow LEC Rival Fnatic to win the 2019 LEC Summer Split Finals. Despite lackluster results in the 2018 season, G2 Esports has placed first at every event it has gone to in the 2019 season. This includes the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational, North America vs. Europe Rift Rivals event, along with the LEC Spring and Summer Splits. With their most recent achievement, they will be a prime contender for this year’s 2019 World Championships.

All five G2 Esports players also made it into the top 10 in the voting for Most Valuable Player. This is Jankos’ first LEC MVP title and had more than double the points of the player in second place. As Jankos goes into the 2019 World Championships on Oct. 2, will he be able to carry home another award?
