KOI vs Heretics breaks ERL viewership record with over 250,000 viewers

The KOI vs. Heretics League of Legends match on Thursday broke the ERL viewership record

Ibai “Ibai” Llanos and soccer player Gerard Pique’s team KOI, along with Team Heretics, helmed by co-owner David “Grefg” Cánovas Martínez  entered the Spanish league of League of Legends in 2022. The match between these two teams has broken the record of viewers of a match in an ERL on Thursday. It was the eighth day of the regular league, so as Ibai Llanos pointed out in his stream, these figures can still be beaten in the short term.

The expectations for this match have been some of the highest ever seen in social networks. The game reached more than 255,000 viewers in the regular day number eight, adding Ibai’s broadcast, with a peak of 190,000 viewers, the broadcast of Werlyb (official broadcast of Heretics) with about 36,000 viewers and the official broadcast of the LVP with 29,000 viewers.

The rivalry started to get spicy in social networks after Koi’s defeat on Monday, where Ibai asked fans to continue trusting the players in the bad streaks. Grefg then repeated the same message on Twitter. This made the fire of their rivalry burn even hotter.

These tweets led to Ibai and TheGrefG exchanging words based on clips, and the entire Spanish community turned to social networks to watch the game – many of them without any idea of how League of Legends worked.

The pair were to talk about their competition the night before in co-founder and co-owner of Team Heretics Jorge “Goorgo” Orejudo’s stream. Before the game, Ibai and Grefg made a preview talking about their teams and what this game was about. Neither wanted to lose, and both were convinced that their team would win. So they decided to make a bet between the two of them: Whoever lost had to do a dance to music chosen by the winner while the nexus was thrown in the background.

The game started out pretty evenly matched, but Heretics began to snowball their advantage and it seemed that everything was settled. Until a teamfight in the nashor. KOI went up the golden score, and even took the lead. Just when they seemed to be in the lead, Heretics started a teamfight with nocturne and cleaned Ibai’s team in the blink of an eye.

Ibai finally uploaded his lost bet to Twitter, but broke the Spanish LVP historical record.
