“kysk” won Smash 64 Singles at Super Smash Con 2019 on August 10. Super Smash Con proved to be a productive event for kysk, as he also won the Smash 64 Combo Contest.
Things started off a bit shaky for kysk in Division 1 pools of Smash Con Smash 64 Singles. He managed to earn respectable wins over Ryan “sheer” Gordon, Juan “Shalaka” Amézquita, and Javier “Fireblaster” Romero. However, he also suffered an upset loss to “KeroKeroppi”. As a result, kysk entered top 32 with a lower seed than originally expected.
Despite being faced with a difficult bracket, kysk seemed unstirred come time for top 32. He started the bracket with a 2-0 victory over Andy “Shihman” Shih. Then in Winners Quarters, kysk earned an impressive 3-1 upset over No. 1 seed Daniel “SuPeRbOoMfAn” Hoyt.
In Winners Semis, kysk won the runback against KeroKeroppi 3-1. He even got a 3-0 victory over Justin “Wizzrobe” Hallett in Winners Finals. A greater challenge came for kysk in Grand Finals in the form of “wario”, another Japanese player. However, kysk won their set 3-2 in order win the Smash Con Smash 64 tournament.
With his Super Smash Con victory, kysk may now lay claim to the title of world’s best Smash 64 player. He has won every major tournament he has attended since Kanto 2018 on May 5, 2018. While this may seem convincing, previous Smash 64 tournaments were not stacked enough for kysk to definitively claim the title. For example, SuPeRbOoMfAn had not lost a tournament in two years, since Super Smash Con 2017. But kysk beat out an incredibly competitive pool of players to establish his status as perhaps the best.

Japanese Pikachu main wario put together quite the respectable run to 2nd place in Smash Con Smash 64 Singles. He made it to Winners Quarters with wins over “Prince” and Josh Brody, but “Kurabba” sent him to the losers bracket. From there, wario beat many top players to secure his spot in Grand Finals. He defeated Eduardo “tacos” Tovar, Alvin Hara, and KeroKeroppi to reach top 4. In Winners Semis, wario won his rematch against Kurabba 3-2. He then got a 3-0 over Wizzrobe in Losers Finals.
Multi-game Smasher Wizzrobe cemented his status as one of Smash 64’s greats at Super Smash Con 2019. He defeated a slew of Japanse players to reach Winners Finals, including “meipon”, Sho “maha” Shi, and Kurabba. He placed 3rd after losing to two other Japanese players, kysk and wario. Wizzrobe won the previous Smash 64 major, Inka Fest 2019. There, he defeated Prince, Gustavo “Tavomono” Huanca, Rogger “StradoN” Cárdenas, Joel Isai Alvarado, Manuel “Gohan” Jaramillo, and Alvin.
Alvin & tacos won the Smash 64 Doubles tournament. They beat Josh Brody & Jason “Darkhorse” Brody and Kurabba & kysk to reach the winners side of Grand Finals. Kurabba & kysk took one set off of the duo in Grand Finals, but Alvin & tacos won the second set to emerge victorious.
Not only was Smash Con one of the most stacked Super Smash Bros. tournaments to date, but it was also one of the largest. Super Smash Con 2019 was the 2nd biggest Smash 64 tournament ever, with 275 entrants. It falls behind Super Smash Con 2016, which had 314 entrants.
