Brand new skins for old friends

League of Legends approaches 150 unique champions. With all of them come great skins. In 2018, Riot Games released over 80 skins to players. In 2019, they reached the 100 mark. Now in 2020, they are planning to push past 120 skins. Their main focus this year is to roll out new skins for champions who haven’t been given any attention the past few years. These include the following:

  • Skarner
  • Xerath
  • Modekaiser
  • Kindred
  • Rek’Sai
  • Vel’Koz
  • Karthus
  • Sion
  • Twitch
  • Taric
  • Pantheon
  • Nautilus
  • Trundle
  • Bard
  • Ornn
  • Taliyah

Along with this list, popular champions such as Lux, Kai’Sa, Ezreal, and Ahri are going to receive new skins as well. Belliss adds, “One of our hopes is that champion mains can count the time since they last got a skin in months instead of years.”

New theme development

Developing themes among champions has been an effective way to keep the League of Legends universe fun and exciting, such as Star Guardians, Odyssey, True Damage, and High Noon. Riot has decided to restructure certain themes like Snowdown and figure out why they’re not as popular as others. Most importantly, they’re looking to find ways to recreate older themes and bring them to life so players can finally enjoy them.

Alongside the skin updates, Belliss had a short take on the brand new Mecha Kingdoms, which launches today as the first major event of 2020. He referred back to the Lunar Revel events, and how it gained popularity mainly in the eastern region. The development team is looking to create an event that brings both western and eastern regions together. Beliss reminds us that the Mecha Kingdoms are “a legendary sci-fi universe where the greatest heroes from Warring Kingdoms unite against a monstrous threat.” The champions with Mecha skins are Leona, Garen, Draven, Jax, and Sett.

League of Legends events update

About the changes in upcoming events, Belliss says, “We want each event to feel like a unique experience that all players can be excited for, which is why our goal moving forward is to make participating events more rewarding, more novel, and more memorable for everyone.” New game modes and missions are in the works, as well as improvements to the Event Pass system. These changes will make it easier for players to reach rewards in a fair system where they don’t have to play consistently and give up their hard-earned tokens for smaller items (such as icons, wards, etc.).

Older champions getting new skins and fun events happening year-round? It sounds like Riot Games is really kicking it up a notch. Keep yourself updated and follow us here on Daily Esports.
