League of Legends Patch 10.17 goes live tomorrow and is bringing some changes to the bot lane. Champions like Kai’Sa and Xayah are getting buffs, while Caitlyn and others are getting nerfs. Here’s what you need to know.
The state of the bot lane
The bot lane meta in League of Legends has been quite stale recently. Caitlyn, Ashe, and Ezreal seem leaps and bounds ahead of others. There is also, of course, the combination of Sona and Lux that has grown in popularity due to the Guardian rune. Riot is looking to make some changes to the lane. The following are the Champions receiving changes.
Nerfs
Caitlyn: Base Movement Speed down from 330 to 325
Sona: Q AP Ratio down by 10% and E Movement Speed AP Ratio down from 3% to 2% per 100 AP
Lux: W Base Shield down and Mana Cost up
Buffs
Kai’Sa: AD per level up by .3 and E Attack Speed bonus up from 40-60 to 40-80
Varus: Attack Speed per level up by .75%
Xayah: AD per level up by .6
Better late than never, 10.17 Patch Preview. A bit smaller than a normal patch with the Riot summer break last week.

These changes should help bring some diversity to the bot lane. While they will likely destroy Sona and Lux, they don’t seem significant to chase off Caitlyn, Ezreal, or Ashe.
Other notable changes
In addition to the changes to bot-laners, there are several other changes coming in League of Legends Patch 10.17. Evelynn, Hecarim, Qiyana, and Yone are all getting nerfs and Aatrox and Gragas are getting minor buffs. The most notable of these changes is the change to Yone, who just released with the last patch. The base damage of his Q is dropping from 20-120 to 20-100 and his ultimate no longer lifesteals.
All of these changes are coming prior to the World Championships patch. It will be exciting to see what other changes come in the next few weeks leading up to the League of Legends World Championships. Be sure to stay tuned for all the latest news and updates.
