Another week in the LEC has gone by and so another round of our power rankings has arrived. Last weekend had a few big surprises in store for fans. After the dust settled, we had some teams solidify their spot at the top while the middle of the pack begins to separate as well. Can G2 Esports keep this run of domination up? Will Fnatic make a miraculous comeback in the second half of the season? Let’s jump into our power rankings for week three of the LEC.

Biggest jumps: Schalke 04, EXCEL Esports [+ 2]

Biggest drops: SK Gaming [- 2]

1. G2 Esports (6-0) [↔️]

Another strong week for G2 Esports, who hasn’t skipped a beat since the start of the season. This time around, the best team in the region would take down SK Gaming and Splyce. They have also shown that they can be strong even with a lesser performance from Rasmus “Caps” Winther. There isn’t much to say about this team, except that they have so much talent across each role. As a result, there is always someone to step up if anyone is playing at a subpar level.

Although Splyce would provide a bit of a challenge by pressuring Caps in the mid lane, G2 showed that they weren’t reliant on one person. Every single player is a threat, and each team must play perfectly if they are to ever win against this super team. Splyce had a few chances to run away with the game, but they made too many mistakes that G2 Esports used to come back. They face off against Team Vitality and Fnatic next week. We will see if any of those teams can hand G2 their first loss of the season.

2. Schalke 04 (5-1) [+ 2]

Schalke 04 had a couple tough matchups this past weekend in Splyce and EXCEL Esports. However, they showed their resilience in the face of two surging teams and jump two spots in our standings. Their coaching staff may be one of the best in the league with how Schalke played in week three. From his drafts to the group’s overall macro play, Dylan Falco might have been the most important addition to this team. He might have been the driving force between last year’s Fnatic squad, and he is showing his skills today with a brand-new Schalke lineup.

However, we must still praise the roster of this possible top-two team. Elias “Upset” Lipp is arguably the best ADC in the LEC, as he has dominated many of his matchups up to this point in the split. He has the third-most kills in the league, as well as the second-highest KDA. Upset is also in the top five for Gold Difference at Ten Minutes (GD@10) and Average Creep Score Difference at Ten Minutes (CSD@10). He and Lee “IgNar” Dong-geun form one of the most formidable duos in the bottom lane. Even their rookie mid laner, Felix “Abbedagge” Braun, has been playing quite well and looks like a good candidate for Rookie of the Split honors.

3. Team Vitality (5-1) [+ 1]

Vitality Week Three LEC Power Rankings

Team Vitality has had a pretty good showing through the first three weeks of the Spring Split. However, it is really easy to chalk that up to a relatively trouble-free start. In fact, the only wins they’ve had with a top-tier team this split has been against Misfits Gaming. In the rest of their games, they’ve played Splyce who’s been decent so far, but Origen, Rogue, and Fnatic have been three of the worst teams in the LEC. We still need to see them face off against G2 Esports and EXCEL Esports, who they have games with this coming week.

This isn’t to say that this team is bad. Au contraire, they are quite a good team. Daniele “Jiizuke” di Mauro hasn’t been the monstrous carry mid laner that we saw in 2018 and instead has taken a step back to allow his teammates to shine. Speaking of which, Lucas “Cabochard ” Simon-Meslet has been incredible for Vitality these past six games. He has the most kills of any LEC top laner, the highest kill participation of any top laner, and has been a leader for this team. Ultimately, we just need more consistency from Vitality in order for them to lock in a top-five position in our power rankings.

4. Misfits Gaming (4-2) [- 1]

Misfits Week Three

Misfits Gaming has dropped from their previous power ranking slightly after week three. Unfortunately, this could be a sign of misfortune to come for this supposed super team. For one, they have had the easiest schedule so far out of any team in the LEC. They haven’t even faced G2 Esports, Splyce, or FC Schalke and they also lost against Team Vitality in week two. It is clear that they have some difficulty when Steven “Hans Sama” Liv isn’t out to a good lead.

They are finally facing off against some good competition in Schalke 04 and Splyce this week, where their more prominent problems may come to light. In week three, Misfits’ macro game wasn’t the greatest and their team fighting was lackluster, especially against EXCEL Esports. They need to start cleaning up these issues if they want a chance at taking down higher-placed teams in the power rankings. Luckily, their problems have risen early in the season and are fixable. It’s better than last year when their struggles began late in the year and would cost them in the playoffs.

5. Splyce (3-3) [↔️]

Splyce Week Three

Splyce may actually be better than their record suggests, after going 0-2 in week three. They were subjected to a tough schedule, having to play against both G2 Esports and Schalke 04. However, they have been showing plenty of promise. For example, they were able to push G2 Esports to a well-fought 40-minute match. Even though they lost, they were able to play around the mid lane to set Caps behind. Unfortunately, they would make some mistakes in the mid to late game, and the plethora of talent on the G2 roster was too much to handle.

Even still, Splyce has had flashes of potential in the face of defeat. Andrei “Xerxe” Dragomir has been pretty good early in the season, leading the LEC’s junglers in kills, average experience level at ten minutes (XPD@10), GD@10, and CSD@10. He also has the highest first blood rate in the league at 83%. Their macro and team fighting should only improve as the season progresses, so we expect Splyce to hover around the middle for our power rankings.

6. EXCEL Esports (2-4) [+ 2]

Excel Esports Week Three LEC Power Rankings

EXCEL Esports might be the perfect example of something that is more than the sum of its parts. On paper, they may not look too impressive, but together they are a team that should not be underestimated. Simply put, this team has a strong top side of the map in Ki “Expect” Dae-han and Marc “Caedrel” Robert Lamont. Expect shone in their matchup against Misfits, where he would dominate Paul “sOAZ” Boyer in lane, and would even top off his performance with a brilliant smite steal to effectively win the game. Caedrel has been great past his week-one performance, boasting the highest KDA of all European junglers.

Additionally, EXCEL has been competing against some of the best teams in the league through the first few weeks of the Spring Split. This week, they will be going up against two teams at opposite sides of the spectrum, Fnatic and Team Vitality. If they can somehow end week four with a 2-0, then watch for EXCEL Esports to hop up in our power rankings once again.

7. Origen (2-4) [↔️] (2-4)

With a win against SK Gaming but a loss against Team Vitality, Origen stays put in our power rankings for the time being. What is there to expect from this new-look squad? In all honesty, they looked very average on their good days, and downright horrible on their bad days. Their matches in week three exemplified their lack of direction and identity, especially against SK Gaming. They are struggling with a lot of aspects to their game, like good macro and team fighting skills. Luckily for them, SK would run right into them multiple times until Patrik “Patrik” Jírů would be too much to contain.

There needs to be a change in strategy for this roster, as it already looks like they are stagnating this early in the season. For a team with so much hype, they have fallen flat in the most spectacular of ways. They now have to face off against Schalke 04 and Rogue, two opposite teams in the standings. They should be able to take at least one win away from week four, but if they actually hand Rogue their first win of the season… It might be time to panic.

8. SK Gaming (2-4) [- 2]

It seems that the young, fiery roster of SK Gaming has cooled down a significant amount from their decent start to the season. Because of that, they’ve dipped considerably in our power rankings. Losing to Origen was a big shot to their confidence and stock in our power rankings, as they should have been able to take them down. However, they’ve hit another snag in their inaugural season in the league.

Most of SK Gaming’s lineup is not too impressive either, with most of the players hovering as a lower-tier talent at best. Their only saving grace these past few games has been Oskar “Selfmade” Boderek, but even he was struggling last week against G2 Esports and Origen. Fortunately, this is a team with a relatively young, growing squad. Going through these hardships now should help give them some incentive to improve for weeks to come.

9. Fnatic (1-5) [↔️]

Fnatic Week Three LEC Power Rankings

Even with their first victory, Fnatic remains ninth in our power rankings. Fnatic wasn’t happy after their win against Rogue last week, and frankly, neither was anyone else. They still look comically weak compared to their 2018 form, and they don’t look like they’ll be challenging the upper echelons of the LEC anytime soon. Their drafting remains suspect, their laning is weak, their macro game is sad to watch, and overall, this team looks like a shell of itself without Caps and Dylan Falco. Ironically, their best-performing player was Caps’ replacement, Tim “Nemesis” Lipovšek.

Could this be one of the biggest collapses of any World Finalist team? Just last year, four of the five members of this team were battling it out against Invictus Gaming for the Summoner’s Cup. Now, they are having heated battles with… Rogue at the bottom of the standings. Improvements aren’t impossible, but they still have plenty to work on before they even begin to threaten the playoffs again.

10. Rogue (0-6) [↔️]

Rogue Week Three LEC Power Rankings

I feel like everything we’ve said about Rogue is applicable after every week. Lack of direction and lack of talent defines this team. Even though they may be going against some lower-tier teams in Origen and SK Gaming in week four, don’t hold your breath. They did show signs of life in their match against Vitality, but it was still a losing effort. They barely have any cohesiveness together, and it shows week in and week out. Mateusz “Kikis” Szkudlarek struggles to balance his jungle pressure with his farming, and both Chres “Sencux” Laursen and Martin “HeaQ” Kordmaa are the worst in their respective roles in the region.

I expect to see them here at the bottom of the standings and our power rankings come next week.
