Los Angeles Guerrillas to reportedly sign MentaL as a CDL substitute

Some more Call of Duty League news has sprinkled in the past couple of days. After the New York Subliners added Clayster, a report has come in about former Gears of War professional Billy “MentaL” Putnam. A few weeks ago, MentaL tweeted that he would consider stepping away from GOW if the right opportunity in Call of Duty arose. Well, a new report has surfaced from a CDL insider claiming that the Los Angeles Guerrillas plan to sign the former GOW pro. This is supposedly a substitute role, which makes sense for a first-time Call of Duty player.

If this report ends up being true, then this would be another case of a console professional moving to Call of Duty. We saw MVP Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro move from Halo this past season and see massive success. Other players like Ian “Crimsix” Porter migrated from Halo as well.

Well, it seems that the LA Guerrillas are trying to make some magic of their own. The current claim is that the team plans to sign MentaL to a substitute position for the 2021 Call of Duty League. This would give MentaL time to acclimate to the scene and Black Ops Cold War.

Obviously, the hope for LA is that the GOW pro would blossom into a star the same way Shotzzy has. However, he might have a hard time cracking the Guerrillas roster in 2021. In the same report, there are claims that LA already has their starting lineup for next season. The reported roster is:

  • Adam “Assault” Garcia
  • Justin “Silly” Fargo
  • Brian “Apathy” Zhelyazkov
  • Reece “Vivid” Drost

If this reported lineup comes to fruition, it would mean that three former world champs are teaming up again. Assault, Silly, and Apathy were on the underdog Evil Genuises squad that took home the championship in 2018. Vivid would be the lone member from the 2020 LA squad.

We’ll have to wait for an official announcement from the Guerrillas regarding MentaL and the rest of the 2021 roster. Make sure to stay tuned to Daily Esports for all CDL news.
