Another round of Summit voting is finished, with two more players earning spots at Beyond the Summit’s upcoming Super Smash Bros. Melee invitational. Sasha “Magi” Sullivan and Dan “Tyler Swift” Petruso will attend Smash Summit 12 as vote-ins from Dec. 9-13.
Leading up to the end of Tuesday’s voting period, Magi held a comfortable lead. Conversely, Tyler Swift was barely positioned outside of the range of elimination with two hours left. However, a large “spirit bomb” boosted Tyler Swift to over 80,000 votes, allowing him to join Magi at Smash Summit 12.

While two players were invited to Summit during this voting period, three others were eliminated from the running. Most notable among them was Edgard “n0ne” Sheleby, the highest-ranked player who campaigned for Smash Summit 12. Additionally, Luis “TheSWOOPER” Olivo and Christopher “NoFluxes” Jordan did not receive enough votes to advance to the next round of voting.

Meet the next Smash Summit 12 vote-ins: Magi and Tyler Swift
Ever since her top 100 debut in 2018, Magi has been steadily climbing the ranks of competitive Melee. She rose from No. 97 to No. 43 in 2019, thanks in large part to her win over Joseph “Mang0” Marquez at Genesis 6. While there have been no formal rankings since then, Magi made steady improvements over quarantine and finished in fourth place at Low Tide City. Smash Summit 12 will mark her third Summit appearance; Magi previously placed 13th at both Smash Summit 9 and Smash Summit 10 Online.

Conversely, Tyler Swift will make his Summit debut at Smash Summit 12. Once known simply as Zain “Zain” Naghmi’s practice partner for the Pikachu match-up, Tyler Swift has recently become a prominent competitor in his own right. Most notably, he placed third at Galint Melee Open: Summer Edition, defeating Logan “Logan” Dunn, Dawud “Aklo” Rahman, John “KoDoRiN” Ko and Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma in the process.

Currently, there are four more players in the running for Smash Summit 12: Gio “null” Rossi, Anees “Free Palestine” Assaf, Sam “Ringler” Corner and Hugh “SluG” Hegarty. Two of them will make it into Summit when the final voting period ends at 3 p.m. ET on Dec. 2.
