Mew2King wins The Rumble: Heavies-only invitational at Super Smash Con 2019

Jason “Mew2King” Zimmerman won The Rumble, a Heavies-only invitational at Super Smash Con 2019, on Thursday evening. He made use of Bowser throughout the bracket, one of his many main characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The Smash Con Heavies Rumble was an eight-man, single-elimination bracket where players could only use Smash Ultimate’s heavy characters. Participants had to choose between the eight heaviest fighters in the game: Bowser, King K. Rool, Donkey Kong, King Dedede, Ganondorf, Charizard, Incineroar, or Piranha Plant.

This event was commentated by YouTuber “Little Z” and Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma. The patron for the special side event was Cup Noodles. As a result, matches took place on custom versions of Battlefield and Final Destination designed to look like Cup Noodles.

Mew2King’s run at the Smash Con Heavies Rumble

Mew2King cruised to 1st place at the Smash Con Heavies Rumble without dropping a single game. He beat Eric “ESAM” Lew’s Donkey Kong and Incineroar, William “DKwill” Walsh’s Donkey Kong, and Troy “Puppeh” Wells’ Charizard.

Mew2King entered the Smash Con Heavies Rumble at somewhat of an advantage as a Bowser main. However, he also uses a plethora of other characters well, including Lucina, Incineroar, and Jigglypuff. He has had respectable results in Ultimate recently, including top 64 finishes at both Smash’N’Splash 5 and EVO 2019. Mew2King also boasts wins over Zack “ZD” Darby and Spencer “BestNess” Garner.

Puppeh had a solid run to the finals of his event himself. He scored a victory over Samuel “Dabuz” Buzby’s Piranha Plant and Ganondorf in round one. In Semifinals, Puppeh beat Nairoby “Nairo” Quezada’s Ganondorf and Donkey Kong.

Despite being the best Super Smash Bros. Ultimate player in the world, Leonardo “MkLeo” Perez is not a heavy main. MkLeo tied for last at the event, losing to DKwill in the very first round with Charizard. Trevor “Atomsk” Hirschen was the final last-place finisher at the Heavies Rumble. Atomsk’s Dedede was unable to overcome Nairo’s Ganondorf.
