Reports: MIBR interested in acquiring Cloud9’s Tarik

According to reports, Made in Brazil (MIBR) are in discussion to acquire Cloud9’s in-game leader, Tarik “tarik” Celik.

This news comes right after MIBR’s disappointing finish at ESL One Cologne, failing to even get past the group stage. Hometown team BIG Clan would eliminate them in round three of the lower bracket, two games to one. After the tournament, there was speculation on whether or not MIBR would make another roster change. The report states that Tarik would be replacing Ricardo “boltz” Prass. Prass has been underperforming as of late for MIBR, especially at ESL One Cologne.

Two weeks ago, the MIBR roster transitioned from its team under SK Gaming to the Made in Brazil brand. This was a move many fans were anticipating, as the roster was not content with SK Gaming management. If Tarik were to join MIBR, this would make him the second player to join the team from Cloud9. He would be joining his former teammate, Jacky “Stewie2k” Yip, who left the team after winning the ELEAGUE Boston Major back in January 2018.

This move has both Cloud9 and Made in Brazil without the ability to make any roster moves until September. This is due to the Valve rule stating that any team attending a Major must have three of the five players remain from the previous major. For Cloud9, the core of Will “RUSH” Wierzba, Timothy “autimatic” Ta, and Tyler “Skadoodle” Latham would be the only remaining players on the roster that won the ELEAGUE Major in Boston. They do have Pujan “FNS” Mehta sitting on the bench. Their current stand-in, Martin “STYKO” Styk, is not guaranteed a spot on the team. Cloud9 also had a lackluster showing at ESL One Cologne, as the team would only manage to win one match against Ninjas in Pyjamas. Astralis would then best them 2-0 in the second round. Afterward, eventual champions Natus Vincere would eliminate them in the lower bracket.

Roster Possibility with Tarik

If MIBR manages to sign Tarik to their team, the lineup would consist of:

  • Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo
  • Fernando “fer” Alvarenga
  • Marcelo “coldzera” David
  • Jacky “Stewie2k” Yip
  • Tarik “tarik” Celik

Tarik is the current in-game leader for Cloud9, which would mean that he would have to move to a different role on MIBR. Fans will assume that FalleN will not give up his position as MIBR’s in-game leader. However, for Cloud9, this leaves them without a dedicated in-game leader, which could lead to a whole different set of problems. Not to mention they will now have to accustom themselves with another possible stand-in. Hence, this cannot be good for team morale and ability to practice, as they cannot find themselves a solid teammate for the future.

However, MIBR will now need to accustom themselves with not only a new teammate but new voice on the squad. How will Tarik adjust from being the leader on Cloud9 to having to follow someone else’s calls? Also, will there be any problems in the future by having two prominent voices on the team? We will have to see at the next tournament, that being the 2018 ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier on Saturday, July 21.
