Minnesota ROKKR shock OpTic Chicago at the Stage 2 Major

One of the craziest series of the 2021 Call of Duty League has ended with Minnesota ROKKR taking down OpTic Chicago. Minnesota pulled off a miracle win against Chicago, advancing themselves at the Stage 2 Major,  in round four of the loser’s bracket.

The series was full of surprises by the two teams. It was one of the most intense matches of the year that ended with an insane play by Lamar “Accuracy” Abedi. Three OpTic players lined up to help Abedi win a 3-1 in the final round. Chicago looked absolutely dejected after the loss.

In the rematch that most CDL fans wanted to see, the top two seeds in Group B didn’t disappoint. Nearly every player on the map performed well, with all members of the two squads finishing with above a .85 K/D.

The series didn’t start out too exciting, though. None of the first four maps came down to a close finish. The ROKKR managed to take the first two respawn maps, which was a huge surprise. OpTic was able to dominate the first Search and Destroy and second Hardpoint.

The final Search and Destroy made the series one to remember. It was a back-and-forth affair that saw OpTic take a 5-3 lead at one point. Minnesota, as they’ve done since Eli “Standy” Bentz arrived on the scene, fought back.

They managed to tie the game up at 5-5 and then chaos ensued. At the A site on Moscow, OpTic came out of a scrap with a 4-2 man advantage and then eventually a 3-1 advantage. This was all for naught though, as Lamar “Accuracy” Abedi made perhaps the play of the year to win Minnesota the map and the series.

Chicago formed a three-man conga line at the A site, allowing Accuracy to fire a few bullets into all of them and clutch the round. It’s unclear what caused OpTic to line up in that way. The reactions to this moment were some of the best of the season, as seen below.

Minnesota walks away with the round and series, remaining alive in the Stage 2 Major. OpTic Chicago falls in one of the most dramatic ways possible, ending their Major run. The ROKKR play again tomorrow, Sunday, April 11, against the Toronto Ultra.
