Modern Warfare 1.09 update arrives but isn’t what the community wanted

The latest title update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, version 1.09, is now available to download in all regions. The update is close to 13 GB and is live across all systems. Toted as “the big update” by Infinity Ward employees, version 1.09 does include a long list of bug fixes and some new content. However, this is nowhere near what the community was expecting out of this update. Instead of general fixes, fans were hoping for new maps, weapons, game modes, and maybe a change to the overall structure of Modern Warfare. What we received instead just seems like another median update that doesn’t do anything for the longevity of the game.

The patch notes for update 1.09

Here are some of the bigger bugs that Infinity Ward fixed in 1.09:

  • Dead Silence: Fix for the Dead Silence Field Upgrade not lasting the correct amount of time when CDL rules are enabled

  • Fix for nameplates being visible in a certain location on Piccadilly

  • Updates to the obituary (killfeed), removed “Avenged” and “Save Player,” play of the game owner, and player rank increases

  • Fix for camera getting stuck on the death location when transitioning to spectate

  • Fixed an issue where the mount interaction prompt was disappearing when planting or diffusing the bomb in Search and Destroy

The Dead Silence bug mentioned above was a fairly large glitch that many competitive fans are happy to see fixed. In addition to that, the spectating bug in Search and Destroy is now removed. Before, players could see the area where they died, giving away valuable information about the enemy team.

In addition to the bug fixes, Infinity Ward also made some adjustments to the footstep audio. With version 1.09, footsteps will be much quieter when either crouching or aiming down sights.

  • Footsteps: Adjusted volume and sound type played for crouch walk and walking while Aiming Down Sights

In terms of new content, multiplayer is receiving the game mode Gun Game and a Realism Moshpit playlist. For Special Operations, there are two new missions available, “Harbinger” and “Brimstone.” Along with this, there is now a classic Spec Ops mode, “Door Kick,” where players must complete a challenge course in a certain amount of time.

Among the remaining Modern Warfare update patch notes, there are many more general fixes across the board but nothing substantial. Hopefully, with version 1.10 we start to see some real change come to Modern Warfare.
