One of the biggest rumors floating around this past year has been the possibility of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered. It seemed logical since Infinite Warfare launched with Modern Warfare Remastered in 2016.
However, there were never any concrete leaks about Modern Warfare 2 Remastered. Every news outlet and “source” said something different about the subject. One leak claimed it would come with Call of Duty 2019, now known as Modern Warfare, and others said it would never happen.
Even though we still don’t have 100% confirmed facts, one of the first sightings of MW2 Remastered surfaced yesterday. However, while it does say Modern Warfare 2 Remastered, some fans might not like what’s coming with it.
MW2 Remastered has only Campaign mode?
Admittedly, MW2 Campaign Remastered was a popular rumor for several months. There were leaks out of Infinity Ward and other developing studios saying this is all that would come with a Remastered version.
Well, it seems like this rumor now has some legs thanks to another leak. On TrueAchievements, a popular Australian website for gaming news and in-game achievements, they put out a listing for Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered along with the new Modern Warfare title.
While this does come as a surprise, TrueAchievements isn’t by any means a reliable news source. They could simply be putting this listing up to build hype or draw in viewers to their website. That said, it is just as possible they received a tip about a possible remaster and put this out before they were supposed to.
When would we see MW2 Remastered?
Regardless of how you feel about a Campaign-only remaster, it would still be neat to go back and play with improved graphics and gameplay. However, there is still no way to tell if this listing is real or not.
If it is, in fact, legitimate, it remains plausible that it could release alongside Modern Warfare. Infinity Ward’s last title, Infinite Warfare, released with a remaster as well. That said, Activision could also make the decision to release it halfway through Modern Warfare’s lifecycle. This would allow the company to promote both games equally.
In any case, if Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is real, we should hear more about it in the coming months. Whether or not we hear about it through official channels remains the biggest question.
