While the community has all of their attention towards Modern Warfare, another Call of Duty could be in the waiting. According to multiple sources, Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is not merely in the works – it’s ready to go. However, Activision won’t release the game at this time due to the lack of fiscal reasons.
Although this information is coming out now, we’ve heard rumors of MW2 Remastered for nearly a year. A Campaign-only version leaked in various spots online, including the ESRB rating site. However, sources indicate that MW2 Remastered is much more than that.
MW2 Remastered unofficially confirmed?
Much like what happened with this year’s Modern Warfare, no one is confirming anything. Many insiders and developers are dancing around the topic, not saying the words “Modern Warfare 2 Remastered.”
However, we can gather our own assumptions from this avoidance. The Art Director for Infinity Ward, Joel Emslie, recently did an interview with GameInformer. In this interview, GameInformer asked him about the possibility of MW2 Remastered. Emslie had this to say:
I’m just focused on this thing (Modern Warfare). There’s people doing stuff over here and we’re focused on this.
While he doesn’t confirm the remaster, he also doesn’t completely shut it down. When he says “there’s people doing stuff over here,” he could be referring to another studio besides Infinity Ward working on MW2.
This would make sense, as Activision wouldn’t want Infinity Ward bogged down with two titles. Maybe after Modern Warfare releases, Infinity Ward will take the reigns of MW2 Remastered.
Sources lay out the plan
Known (and accurate) leaker TheGamingRevolution has given us what he believes is the plan for MW2 Remastered. TheGamingRevolution has been correct about virtually everything that he’s said about Modern Warfare.
According to him, the remaster is already complete, with both multiplayer and campaign included. Supposedly, the remaster has been complete since April, with campaign being done even farther back.
So, if the game is ready, why isn’t Activision releasing it? Because it doesn’t make sense from a fiscal standpoint. Here’s what an ex-Sledgehammer Games developer, Jeremy Kendall, said about the game. Warning: there is some NSFW language in the tweets below.

Kendall makes some good points. The marketing and physical release for another Call of Duty is extremely expensive. One would imagine that an MW2 remaster would sell unbelievably well – if it released at the right time.
Nevertheless, this seems to be Activision’s plan. In the future, if they believe a Call of Duty title will fall short, an MW2 remaster would be their fall-back option. This is similar to what they did with Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered.
