According to leaks from the PC files of the game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will have a battle royale mode coming soon. The PC files include multiple new details about the new mode, including the supposed map, player count, and tons of gameplay elements. Precise release date is unknown, but one rumor suggest that the mode could come free to play in early 2020.
What does the map for the battle royale mode look like?
Though not official, we have a leaked map that will supposedly be used for Modern Warfare‘s BR.
Although there are no location names on this map, we do have a leaked list of the “zones” for the map:
- Airfield
- Boneyard
- Dam
- Downtown
- Gulag
- Hospital
- Layover
- Lumber
- Overgrown
- Port
- Quarry
- Storage Town
- Supercenter
- Trainyard
- TV Station
If you’re a fan of previous Modern Warfare titles, then some of these locations will look familiar. Fan-favorite maps like Quarry and Overgrown allegedly will be making their return in the BR mode.
Gameplay options for Modern Warfare’s BR
From the PC files of Modern Warfare, we can see that numerous battle royale gameplay details appear already finalized. Here’s a list of some of the options within the mode:
- Player Count: 200
- Playlists: Solo (1), Duos (2), and Squads (4)
- End-Game Radar: On
- Infiltration Option: C130
- Pre-Game Lobby Free-for-All: On
- Post-Game Exfiltration: Off
- Last Stand Revive Health: 30
- Last Stand Timer: 60s
- Max Health: 150
- Last Stand Health: 100
- Last Stand Revive Time: 7s
- Friendly Fire Punish Limit: 2
- Gulag: On
Most of the above options look to be standard with the exception of “Gulag.” As the alleged leak explains, once you die, one of your teammates has the ability to retrieve your Respawn Token, a la Apex Legends. Then things get wild on the Gunfight map Gulag Showers:
To respawn a teammate, obtain a Respawn Token, then drop their body near an Ambulance. Once the body is dropped at the Ambulance, the player will enter the Gulag queue for a chance to win a 1v1 and respawn into the match. At some point during the match, the Gulag will be closed and no longer usable, thus preventing respawns.
This certainly is a new twist on the battle royale mode, as no other title features this mechanic. It will be interesting to see how this plays out if this leak turns out to be true.
In terms of other elements for the BR mode, there will reportedly be rarities like in Fortnite for both weapons and armor, presented with white, green, blue, purple, and gold. This is standard for most battle royale titles. There will also be weapon attachments and separate helmets and body armor like in PUBG.
One last gameplay element resembles that of Blackout, in that there are perks scattered throughout the map. These perks will give you a slight advantage for a certain amount of time. Some of the leaked perks include Sleight of Hand, Tracker, High Alert, Healer, and Ghost.
