Earlier in the week, Gamescom made the announcement that Call of Duty would appear on the event’s opening night, Aug 19. During this appearance, there would be new footage of Modern Warfare and a special announcement. The latter has had the community both excited and anxious, as it could be anything.
While we’ve made some guesses as to what it could be, it looks like some insiders already know. According to a Reddit user, the special announcement will be an open alpha for the 2v2 mode Gunfight taking place next weekend for PS4 users only.

Access to Modern Warfare early?
While it’s assumed that the new footage at Gamescom 2019 will be of Campaign/Spec Ops, no one expected this from the announcement. The best guess was a reveal for the rumored Battle Royale mode that Infinity Ward has been working on.
However, a Reddit user who claims to have inside knowledge says otherwise. Going by the handle Yessiree2, the Reddit post asserts that an open alpha for Gunfight will be the announcement. Keep in mind, though, that Reddit is not always the pinnacle of reliable intel.

In the post, they say that the open alpha will take place Aug 22, this upcoming Thursday. They also state that TheGamingRevolution (TGR) knows about this announcement as well. TGR has been the most accurate leaker when it comes to Modern Warfare.
In a tweet from Aug 15, TGR may have leaked the possibility of a Gunfight alpha/beta, just as the Reddit post says.

The above tweet most likely translates to “Gunfight test”. This does coincide with Yessiree2’s claim that the special announcement as Gamescom will be a Gunfight open alpha. However, we won’t know anything official until Monday, Aug 19. You can watch the Gamescom stream here when it goes live at 2:00 p.m. ET.
