After days of leaks and rumors, we have confirmation for the Modern Warfare Gunfight alpha. Announced at Gamescom’s opening night, the Gunfight alpha will take place this Friday, Aug 23, and run until Aug 26. The alpha will be open (no pre-order or monetary transaction required), but only to PlayStation 4 users.
Though we already knew this was coming, it’s still nice to hear confirmation. Gunfight is Modern Warfare‘s new 2v2 mode that pits two teams against each other on tight, close-knit maps designed specifically for Gunfight. Coming with the open alpha will be all 5 of the mode’s maps that we know about so far.

The details of the Gunfight open alpha
Any fan of Call of Duty should be excited for this early access look at Modern Warfare. Originally, we thought that our only chance to play Modern Warfare before the Oct 25 launch would be starting Sept 12 with the open beta. However, now PS4 users get a free weekend to check out one of the favorite modes so far.
According to most YouTubers and influencers who have already played, Gunfight is one of the best modes in Modern Warfare. “Fast-paced” and “frenetic” are the two words most used to describe the mode.
The alpha will most likely start at 1:00 p.m. ET on Friday, Aug 23. Call of Duty usually starts any alpha/beta at 10:00 a.m. PT, so nothing should change there. Gunfight will come with all five of the previously known maps (Pine, Speedball, Docks, King, and Stack).
We currently have no intel on what weapons/equipment will be available with the alpha. However, we will be sure to keep you updated if any new information comes to light before Friday.
