The release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare draws even nearer, as today you can pre-download the game on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Available for users who digitally preordered, the downloads are separated into different packs. All in all, it will require around 60 GB of storage to pre-download the entirety of these Modern Warfare packs. Campaign, Multiplayer, and Spec Ops are all included in these packs. However, according to the Xbox’s Microsoft Store, the full game will be around 137 GB. So, we should expect some more packs to become available for download early next week. Modern Warfare launches a bit early this year on Oct. 24 at 9 p.m. EST.
Downloads for Modern Warfare starting to roll out
In the past, Call of Duty titles usually began pre-downloading around two-to-three days before launch. This year, however, Infinity Ward is making certain packs of the game available a week early. Perhaps this is to make it so players don’t have to download all 135 GB just days before Modern Warfare releases.
Either way, most countries should be able to pre-download Modern Warfare on Xbox and PlayStation’s stores. As previously mentioned, it’s around 60 GB altogether for this round of download packs. This includes Campaign packs 1+2, Multiplayer Pack 1, Spec Ops packs 1+2, and a Survival pack. The Survival pack will only be available for PS4 users due to the Sony/Activision exclusivity deal for Spec Ops Survival mode.
In order to have access to these downloads, you will need to digitally preorder the game on Xbox or PlayStation 4. Once you have done that, head over to your library and click on the Modern Warfare application. After you click on it, a full list of the downloadable packs should appear. Simply click on all of the packs and make sure they’re downloading in your Notifications menu.
As you can see from the screenshot above, Modern Warfare itself isn’t available for just under 7 days. This lines up with our report that the game will be releasing on Oct. 24 at 9 p.m. EST. While this is still subject to change, it’s extremely likely that Modern Warfare will become available at that time.
The rest of the Modern Warfare download packs should release early next week. Infinity Ward will likely want to give players a couple of days to fully download the bulk of Modern Warfare‘s content. There is no current news on when exactly those downloads will release.
