Modern Warfare will reportedly release a few hours early for digital users

In a new leak, it appears Modern Warfare will be playable earlier than the release date claims. According to both the Xbox and PlayStation store, Modern Warfare will release at 9:00 p.m. ET on Oct 24 for users who have digitally ordered the game. While this isn’t official, the fact that both console stores are saying the same thing can’t be a coincidence. The same thing happened last year with Black Ops 4, though it was inconsistent. This year, however, it looks like Oct 24 is now the potential release date for Modern Warfare.

Modern Warfare to become playable early

If you digitally pre-ordered Modern Warfare on either Xbox or PS4, you should see a countdown timer when you click on the game’s application. This timer counts down until the game becomes playable, which is usually midnight eastern time. However, instead of midnight, this one is counting down to 9:00 p.m. Eastern.

We at Daily Esports checked this out and confirmed it ourselves. If you’d like to see an image of it, though, YouTuber PrestigeIsKey made a video talking about this leak, in which they shared this screenshot from the PS store.

The above screenshot was taken on Oct 15 and counts down to 9:00 p.m. ET on Oct 24. Though not official, since Activision could change their minds, it’s likely this is when Modern Warfare will become playable.

Still, this is only for users who digitally pre-ordered the game. It’s unclear if retailers like GameStop or Target will start selling Modern Warfare early or wait until midnight when the game officially releases.

For digital consumers, all you have to do is make sure the game is downloaded. Infinity Ward should enable downloads two or three days before launch. Simply download the game when it becomes available to do so, and you should be able to play Modern Warfare at 9:00 p.m. on Oct 24.

Currently, it’s not clear as to why Activision and Infinity Ward would release the game early. Perhaps it’s to not have every player jumping online at the same time and make the servers crash, like during WWII‘s launch. Whatever the case, it’s doubtful that many players care as to why it would launch ahead of schedule.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated with any developments on this story. Keep up with Daily Esports for all Modern Warfare news.
