The New York Subliners defeated the LA Thieves at the Dallas Home Series setting the first seeds for the Call of Duty League Stage 3 Major. With the undefeated Toronto Ultra already securing the Group A side earlier today, the Subliners needed a win to secure the Group B side. They did just that against the newly revamped LA Thieves roster.

Coming into this match, all eyes were on the Thieves and their new addition, Cuyler “Huke” Garland. However, they ran into one of the hottest teams in the CDL, spoiling Huke’s debut. New York continues to impress while LA looks like they could be dangerous with some more practice time.

The Thieves falls to New York Subliners in Huke’s debut match

Fresh off a win against OpTic Chicago, New York needed a win Saturday to secure the first seed in the Stage 3 Major. The road to that seed didn’t seem easy thanks to one of the most talented players in the league, Huke, joining a hot LA Thieves team who were also fighting for seeding.

The lot of the Subliners were able to get it done, though, winning 3-1. It seemed like New York was going to cruise past LA after the first Hardpoint. The map ended in a hundred-point club for the Thieves. However, the maps started to get interesting after that. The Search and Destroy, Control and second Hardpoint maps all came down to the wire.

It was Mackenzie “Mack” Kelley and Paco “HyDra” Rusiewiez leading the charge for NYSL. Mack finished the series with an impressive 1.32 Kill/Death ratio while HyDra clutched in multiple situations, especially in the last Hardpoint. Although, a blessed spawn for HyDra did lead to one of those clutch plays.

On the side of LA, Huke performed well in his debut but not up to many fan expectations. The Thieves as a whole performed solid but the Subliners were simply too much to handle toward the end of most maps. New York was even able to keep their perfect Hardpoint record intact, going 9-0 in Stage 3.

The Subliners will be the first seed from Group B come the Stage 3 Major on May 13 while the Thieves await other match results from the Dallas Home Series.
