The rumors have been spreading for quite some time that a new version of the Nintendo Switch we all know and love was coming. Today, Nintendo gave us our first look at the Nintendo Switch Lite. It is a handheld-only version of the Switch. The Switch Lite does not include the TV docking capabilities. However, as long as a game supports handheld play, the Nintendo Switch Lite can play it. That means Smash and Fortnite fans have nothing to worry about. The Switch Lite comes in three pretty nice-looking colors — yellow, turquoise, and gray. This is a more affordable option for those finally looking to pick up a Nintendo Switch, clocking in at $199, and it releases on Sept. 20. If you are a traveler like me, you may want to grab this version instead of the normal one.

What else should you know?

The Switch Lite will allow you to wirelessly connect external Joy-Con controllers, so multiplayer is still an option. With so many amazing fighting games on the Nintendo Switch already such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Mortal Kombat 11 plus more to come, it’s great to see more options available.

Additionally, Switch Lite lacks HD rumble and the IR motion camera. However, there are reports that it will have superior battery life compared to the standard Switch.

The reaction online, for the most part, has been positive to the news. Now all we need is the rumored Switch Pro version to complete the collection of Switch consoles. You can also play with friends through either local wireless or online play. Up to eight Nintendo Switch or Switch Lite consoles can play together.
