North American esports organization NRG Esports has announced that they have signed a team for Gears of War. This Gears of War team features the former OpTic Gaming roster, which won a record 17 of 19 championships in Gears of War 4.

Former OpTic Gaming roster

The former OpTic Gaming Gears of War roster requested to be released after almost three years with their prior organization. The team’s departure came almost a month after Immortals Gaming Club announced they had acquired Infinite Esports and Entertainment. OpTic Gaming is a subsidiary of the Infinite holding company.

Immortals Gaming Club acquired Infinite Esports & Entertainment mainly for OpTic Gaming’s League of Legends Championship Series slot. However, it didn’t seem like some of the esports organization’s other teams would also be supported. Coach Nick “Ashes” Ridgeway posted to social media on behalf of the roster, looking for another organization to represent. It was revealed the roster would temporarily join TOX Gaming for the ELEAGUE Invitational in July. However, it looks like the team’s permanent home for the future will be NRG.

The roster currently consists of Gilbert “Xplosive” Rojo, Alex “SuMuNs” Ascencion, Brian “SoLuRs” Valenzuela, Arody “Praized” Dipre, and Billy “MentaL” Putnam Jr. Nick “Ashes” Ridgeway will stay on as coach for the NRG roster. While with OpTic Gaming, the team won 1st place finishes at 2018’s Gears Pro Circuit Mexico City and New Orleans Open. They also went on to take 1st at 2019’s Gears Pro Circuit Mexico City and Boston Open.
