Overwatch storms San Diego Comic-Con!

Overwatch is all the rage right now as the Overwatch League streams on ESPN, Disney, and ABC networks throughout the month of July. The competition is fierce and entertaining for any esports fan. My colleague, Michael Czar, offered his predictions and insight into the Playoffs and Grand Finals. Be sure to read his article here for more on each of the global teams competing. And, in case you missed it, I shared some background regarding the deal with the Disney-owned networks as well as the broadcasting schedule. Next up? San Diego Comic-con.

San Diego Comic-Con goers are going to be treated to exclusive Overwatch content this week! In the upper level of the conference center, Room 6BCF, a panel called “Behind the Scenes of Overwatch’s Newest Hero” will take place this Friday, July 20 from 3:15-4:15 pm PT. The newest hero, Hammond (or Wrecking Ball), will, of course, take the spotlight. The developers Michael Chu, Arnold Tsang, and Geoffrey Garnett will provide a behind-the-scenes preview of the game’s latest addition. Following the discussion, the developers will participate in a Q&A with the audience. As previously reported by Daily Esports, Hammond will take the appearance of a cartoony hamster in a giant mech (because why not?).

SDCC: More Overwatch activities and merch

The “Overwatch Payload Tour” starts July 18th and runs through the 22nd. Fans will be able to get their hands on prop weapons from the game for a 360-degree rotating stage portraying an Overwatch map. Afterwards, they can access footage of their time on the stage. Everyone who takes part in this event will receive an exclusive Overwatch pin. This all goes down at the Omni Hotel, Floor 4 (Grand Ballroom), so head on over if you’re in the area for SDCC.

Collider also reports that a “GameStop Grillmaster 76 Cosplayer Photo Op from Henchman Studios” will be on the show floor and at the Payload Tour. Furthermore, if you’re in need of exclusive merch, the Blizzard booth (Booth #140) will be selling Wrecking Ball t-shirts, Funko POP! Figurines, and new Tokidoki attire.

There’s plenty for fans to sink their teeth into at this year’s San Diego Comic-con. So if you’ve got tickets, be sure to check out some of the highlights I’ve mentioned. And for more on all things Overwatch, stay tuned into Daily Esports!
