OWL Grand Finals Predictions: Can Shanghai win it all?

The Overwatch League (OWL) Grand Finals takes place this week, and it’s time to take a look at the teams and how they stack up. Here’s a look at the teams and who we can expect to advance over the course of the Grand Finals Weekend.

Seoul Dynasty

The Seoul Dynasty wasn’t the best or the second-best team in the Asia region over the course of the OWL regular season, but they are in the Grand Finals nonetheless. Seoul didn’t look great during the season. They were extremely inconsistent and lost a lot of matches they could have won. They have talent on their roster but haven’t been able to find any consistency throughout 2020.

Even if they play their best and their star DPS Junyoung “Profit” Park pops off, they have a tough opponent in the San Francisco Shock. Expect to see Seoul making in the losers bracket after the first round. They will most likely lose there too, as they are easily the most inconsistent team in the Grand Finals.

San Francisco Shock

The San Francisco Shock won it all in 2019 and despite losing 2019 OWL MVP Jay “Sinatraa” Won, they still field an extremely talented roster. San Francisco’s road to the Championship won’t be as easy this time around, but their first match against Seoul should be fairly easy for them. If they wind up losing to Seoul, they may have big problems moving forward.

San Francisco’s biggest threat is the Shanghai Dragons, who are arguably the best team in the OWL this year. They did also lose a match to the Philadelphia Fusion during the regular season, but they beat them as well, so that will undoubtedly be a fun match to watch if it goes down.

Philadelphia Fusion

Philly technically finished ahead of San Francisco during the regular season, but they also lost to them as well. There’s no doubt that Philly has talent, but they have a tall task facing Shanghai in the first round of the Grand Finals.

Philadelphia’s best hope is that Asia was a weaker region than North America and Shanghai isn’t as good as their record indicates.

Shanghai Dragons

Shanghai is the top seed from Asia and had the best record overall during the regular OWL season. This team went from zero to hero and now has a chance to win it all. Expect Shanghai to beat Philly in the first round and then San Francisco to make it to the finals.

Unless Shanghai chokes, they should be favorites to win it all and take home the cup this year.

Grand Finals weekend starts on Thursday, October 8, at 4 a.m. PDT and goes through Saturday, October 10.
