PAX Australia less than two weeks – what you want to know
PAX Australia is less than two weeks away! Last year was a huge hit. This year, PAX is jam packed with tonnes of amazing games, panels, people, and more. Here’s what’s happening over the weekend of 11-13 October in Melbourne, Australia and what you don’t want to miss.
Esports at PAX Aus
If you’ve been following our Aussie stories, you’ll know there’s already esports coming to PAX Aus. Last year, the Rainbow Six Masters were held at PAX Aus. This year, we’re guessing it’s going to be just as good. The recently announced “Red Bull Fight or Flight” competition powered by Omen HP is coming to this year’s show. The qualifiers will take place at the Red Bull and Omen booth over the three days. If you’re a PUBG player coming to PAX, definitely sign up!
ESL is known for all things esports, not just in Aus but around the world. At this year’s PAX, ESL joins up with Xbox and Lynx to find Australia’s most versatile gamer. If you’re on the social medias, you might have seen the new Lynx Xbox themed products with the tagline “lift your game”. To go with this new line of products, the Lynx Legend was born. It’s a quest taking place over a number of weeks where gamers have to play multiple titles in order prove their worth. And we’re into the final stages.

Players originally qualified through a game of their choice, but must now master all titles to be crowned Legend at the PAX Esports arena. The winner receives an all-expenses paid trip for themselves and a mate to PAX East in Boston with $2,000 AUD spending money. That, and bragging rights! It’s going to be the ultimate showdown you don’t want to miss. There’s also still time to sign up for the final round if you think you have what it takes.
This is a great move by Lynx as more non-endemic brands, such as Louis Vuitton or foodora, jump on board the esports train. We’re sure to expect some of these types of brands at PAX so keep an eye out.
New games
Upcoming titles are always a must at PAX. Fans who come to PAX will be among the first in Australia to play the Final Fantasy VII remake. It’s a game that’s been in the works for a while and we’re sure gamers will be lining up for hours just to play for even a few minutes.

Nintendo has always had a large presence at PAX Aus, and 2019 is no different. Nintendo have revealed three playable games including Pokemon Sword & Shield, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. They’ve already hinted at more games which will be revealed, but nothing is yet confirmed. Bethesda will be back, but are yet to unveiled what they have in store. Aside from a trivia night, a DOOM playthrough, and a panel, they are yet to release any other plans for PAX Aus.
As shown on the XBOX ANZ twitter page, they’ve confirmed Cyberpunk 2077 will be there. It is unknown as to what capacity. Although they do have a cosplay competition to win the coveted collector’s edition.

Ubisoft have announced they’ll have a number of games to play on their booth including Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon® Breakpoint, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Watch Dogs: Legion, and more. They’ve also got a temporary tattoo parlour for some fun skin art.
As always, the PAX Rising area will feature the latest indie games and the table top area will be in full swing for all your card and board games. Plus we’re sure games like Fortnite and League of Legends will be on display too.
Confirmed attendees
Whilst there’s still lots of announcements sure to come in the lead up to PAX, there’s a bunch of companies already confirmed. Razer, PlayStation, Alienware, Logitech G, Sledgehammer Games, 2K, Blizzard, and Bungie have announced they’ll be in attendance. There’s also a plethora of panels on gaming, upcoming titles, networking, education, and more. Check out the full PAX schedule to start planning your visit. If you aren’t coming all the way to Australia for PAX, you can watch a lot of the content on the official PAX Twitch channel. And if you are making the trip, then you better get in quick as tickets (at least on Saturday) are 90% sold out!
