PewFat made it through the first two phases of Smash Con Melee Doubles pools quite easily. The duo scored victories over Ryan “Wally” M. & Santiago “Fable” Pinto, as well as Kashan “Chillindude” Khan & Arjun “Junebug” Rao. Both sets went 2-0 in the favor of PewPewU & SFAT.

The pair carried this momentum into top 8. They defeated Jeffrey “Axe” Williamson & Masaya “aMSa” Chikamoto with a 3-0 in Winners Semis. Winners Finals was more challenging, as Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma and Daniel “ChuDat” Rodriguez pushed them to game five. Still, PewFat won the set 3-2.

However, PewPewU & SFAT were not untouchable. In the first set of Grands, they lost 3-0 to Justin “Plup” McGrath & Jason “Mew2King” Zimmerman. But CLG’s Melee coach, Robert “Bobby Siege” John came in clutch with some helpful advice between sets of Grand Finals. As a result, PewPewU & SFAT retaliated with their own 3-0 to win Smash Con Melee Doubles.

Smash Con Melee Doubles runners-up

Plup & Mew2King had a rather impressive run to 2nd place in Melee Doubles. The pair defeated Austin “Redd” Self & Matt “Polish” W. and Hendrick “DJ Nintendo” Pilar & Gordon “G$” Connell. This got them to top 8 on winners side, where they dropped a set to Hungrybox & ChuDat.

Plup & Mew2King continued through losers with a tight set in Loser Quarters. They won 3-2 over Zain Naghmi and Cory “MilkMan” Hong. But from there, the Plup2King duo went on a rather dominating streak.

Beginning in Winners Semis, Plup & Mew2King won nine games in a row. This included 3-0 victories over Axe & aMSa, Hungrybox & ChuDat, and SFAT & PewPewU. Though they could not take home the gold, their intense losers run was one of the highlights of the tournament.

Plup & Mew2King have had solid Melee Doubles results throughout the year. They placed 3rd at GENESIS 6, 1st at Pound 2019, and 3rd at Smash’N’Splash 5. The duo now has a 2nd place finish in Smash Con Melee Doubles to add to their résumé. This cements Plup & Mew2King as one of the best Super Smash Bros. Melee Doubles teams in the world.
