PGL to host next CS:GO Major in Antwerp, Belgium

PGL has released details about the next CS:GO Major to take place in the Antwerps Sportpaleis in Antwerp, Belgium. This will be the second PGL Major in a row for CS:GO, as they hosted the Stockholm Major at the tail end of 2021. PGL chose Belgium as the location for the Major due to its location at the heart of Europe. CS:GO has a large, dedicated fanbase in the continent, and PGL’s goal was to find the most approachable destination for those fans. It is also the first time that a CS:GO Major will be hosted in Belgium.

Another large reason why the location of the Major was so important is the presence of fans in the arena. PGL has announced that fans will be able to buy tickets for the playoffs of the Major. The Brussels airport is only 30 minutes away from the Antwerps Sportpaleis, ensuring that fans will have the easiest experience possible reaching the arena. The mayor of Antwerp has also made a statement, stating his excitement for the upcoming PGL Major.

“We are very excited to see this top-tier esports championship happening in Antwerp,” said Bart De Wever, mayor of Antwerp. “The CS:GO Majors have millions of viewers, and tens of thousands of fans will visit our city to attend the matches. It is also the first time this tournament will take place in Belgium or the Netherlands. It puts Antwerp on the map internationally as a hot spot for esports, an immensely interesting and fast-developing sector.”

PGL has stated that they will be keeping a close eye on the global pandemic and how it develops over the next few months. PGL says that they are ready to adapt their plans to ensure the safety of all members involved in the tournament.

A final Regional Major Ranking tournament will take place in order to decide the teams that will qualify to the Antwerp Major. PGL has had a great track record with hosting CS:GO tournaments over the last few years, with Kraków in 2017 and Stockholm in 2021.
