Linus “Pipsqueak” Nordin won Super Smash Bros. Melee Singles at the 5DoM Europe Open on December 15. The event included an invitational bracket, an open qualifier bracket, and a relegation round leading into the final bracket.

Pipsqueak had a bit of a shaky start to the invitational bracket, suffering a 1-3 loss to Ville “Levingy” Miekk-oja. He then beat Elliot “Frenzy” Grossman 3-1 before losing to “Solobattle” 2-3. Nevertheless, Pipsqueak still qualified for top 8 through the relegation round, where he defeated Niklas “Niklas2912” Løtveit 3-0.

As with everyone else who reached the final bracket, Pipsqueak was reseeded into winners for top 8. In Winners Quarters, he beat Niklas “Kins0” V 3-2. After this, Pipsqueak’s performances in the 5DoM Europe Open became incredibly commanding.

Pipsqueak scored a stunning 3-0 upset over No. 1 seed Aaron “Professor Pro” Thomas. Notably, this was only his second-ever win against Professor Pro. He kept up the pace in Winners Finals, as he also defeated Frenzy 3-0. Finally, Pipsqueak repeated his 3-0 win against Professor Pro in Grands, thus securing 1st place at the 5DoM Europe Open.

Other results from the 5Dom Europe Open

Professor Pro’s 2nd place finish at the 5DoM Europe Open was technically an underperformance. Still, he showed dominance against everyone other than Pipsqueak. In the invitational bracket, Professor Pro beat Charles “Fuzzyness” Kimmelmann 3-0, Solobattle 3-0, and Levingy 3-1 (twice). Then in top 8, he defeated Adam “ModestMajor” Burrington 3-0, Solobattle 3-2, Kins0 3-0, and Frenzy 3-0.

Frenzy went 0-2 in the invitational bracket, losing to Kins0 and Pipsqueak. But after beating Georg “Rikzz” T 3-1 in the relegation round, he put on a spectacular show in top 8. Frenzy made it to Winners Finals by defeating Solobattle 3-2 and Isdsar Inath 3-0, ultimately finishing in 3rd place.

Isdsar placed 5th at the 5DoM Europe Open, the best of any player from the open qualifier bracket. He earned wins over Lukas “Kaese” K. and Harish “BlackH4ze” Rasiah in the qualifier bracket. Then, Isdsar received a bye through the relegation round, as Dominik “Nicki” Kunze dropped out. Ultimately, Isdsar beat Falco main Levingy 3-1 before falling to two other Falcos, Frenzy and Kins0.
