A new event is live in Pokémon GO, and with it comes your first chance at getting a shiny Celebi. To get the shiny Mythical Pokémon, however, you will have to beat the Distracted by Something Shiny quests.
Here’s how to complete each leg of the challenge and get your hands on the prize.
Pokémon GO Distracted By Something Shiny quest
There are four different legs of the quest and each leg includes three separate tasks. Here they are:
Leg 1 of 4
- Transfer 10 Pokémon
- Catch 10 Grass-type Pokémon
- Evolve 3 Grass-type Pokémon
Leg 2 of 4
- Play with your buddy Pokémon 10 times
- Take a snapshot of a Grass-type Pokémon
- Give your buddy Pokémon 10 treats
Leg 3 of 4
- Defeat Jessie or James 4 times
- Make 5 great curveball throws
- Hatch 3 eggs
Leg 4 of 4
- Claim all three rewards here to earn your encounter with shiny Celebi
How to complete them
For step one of the Distracted by Something Shiny quest, you want to get out and find Grass-type Pokémon. Cottonee and Chespin are spawning fairly frequently, so these are good options. It doesn’t matter which ones you choose to evolve, as long as they are at least part Grass-type.
For the second leg, you need to get your buddy out and play with it 10 times and give it 10 treats. If it’s a Grass-type, you can also take a snapshot of it here and knock out all three tasks in one play session.
For the third leg, make sure you keep an eye out for the Meowth balloons that spawn in the sky. They appear in cycles between 12:00-6:00 local time three times per day and should stick around until you battle them (unless you have a Rocket Radar active, then a boss balloon will spawn instead).
For the final step, you simply need to claim all three rewards, and then you will get to catch Celebi.
