Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto brings back the original 151 Pokémon

It has been almost five years since Pokémon GO first released back in 2016, with only the original 150 Pokémon available to players. To celebrate five years of roaming around public parks, developer Niantic is taking players back to the Kanto region. Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto event will have players completing exclusive Research for rewards.

The biggest decision of every Pokémon game, what version to get?

In a huge throwback to the classic GameBoy titles, players will choose either the Red Version or Green version of the event. Each side has exclusive Research for players to complete along with version exclusive Pokémon. Once players pick a side they won’t be able to change it so it’s an important decision!

The Version exclusive Pokémon are:

  • Red Version: Ekans, Oddish, Mankey, Growlithe, Scyther, and Electabuzz
  • Green Version: Sandshrew, Vulpix, Meowth, Bellsprout, Magmar, and Pinsir

Each version will also have a higher chance at encountering certain shiny Pokémon.

  • Red Version Shinies: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pidgey, Ekans, Pikachu, Nidoran ♀, Oddish, Diglett, Mankey, Growlithe, Ponyta, Shellder, Drowzee, Krabby, Hitmonlee, Lickitung, Scyther, Electabuzz, Eevee, Kabuto, and Dratini.
  • Green Version Shinies: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pidgey, Pikachu, Sandshrew, Nidoran ♂, Vulpix, Meowth, Psyduck, Bellsprout, Geodude, Exeggcute, Hitmonchan, Koffing, Tangela, Horsea, Magmar, Pinsir, Eevee, Omanyte, and Dratini.

The Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto event will also encourage players to trade with their friends. This time players don’t need a Link Cable to trade their favorite Pokémon.

The Kanto Legendaries are back, including Mew!

All 151 of the original Pokémon will be available during the event. Each Pokémon has a chance to be shiny during the Tour, including several who were previously unavailable. The shiny versions of the Kanto Pokémon will be around after the event, so players can still hunt down their favorite shinies. After completing the Kanto Special Research, players can tackle a second, more difficult Research for a chance to catch a Shiny Mew.

The Legendary Birds, Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres and the genetically modified Mewtwo are returning to the game in Raids during the event. Each of these Legendary Pokémon will have new charge attacks.

The Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto ticket is live in the in-app shop now for $11.99. Players who pick up the ticket early will also receive tickets for the January and February Community Day events. The Kanto Tour starts on February 20 at 9:00 AM and ends at 9:00 PM, relative to the player’s on local time. While the event is only one day long, players will be able to complete February 27 to complete the Special Research.
