Free agency season isn’t over yet, and Rainbow7 will soon introduce a new face to League of Legends’ Latin America League. KT Rolster’s former top-laner Jeon “Ray” Ji-won will now take Emmanuel “Acce” Juárez’s place in R7’s 2021 roster. This move was completely unexpected, as R7 have been secretive about any new additions until Wednesday morning ET.

Ray rumored to join Rainbow7

Ray announced his next move to the LLA on Tuesday night via Twitter. The 22-year old South Korean native has played professionally since 2014, joining several well-known teams every year. He began his journey playing for EDward Gaming and AD Gaming until the end of 2015. Soon after, he joined Apex Gaming, Dignitas, and Cloud9. During this time, he managed to help Cloud9 achieve second place in the NA LCS 2017 Spring Split, and first place in the 2017 NA – EU Rift Rivals event.

After leaving NA, Ray returned to China to continue playing for EDward Gaming until December 2019. Within this time frame, the team reached first place in the LPL 2018 Spring Split and the China Regional Finals 2018. This qualified them to move on to Worlds, where they lost 1-3 to Fnatic in the Knockout stage. Although his matches from 2019 to 2020 weren’t as impressive as his other achievements, his move to the LCK was a major change in his career. Additionally, his inconsistency in results with KT Rolster showed that he had some difficulty adjusting to a new league. In an interview with esports reporter Ashley Kang, he admitted that he needs “many more hours of practice” and to get closer to his teammates.

From South Korea to Latin America

Leaving the LCK to go to the LLA is a completely new stage for Ray, as the language barrier may serve as a roadblock. Although he’ll be joining Worlds-participant R7, there’s an entirely new team he’ll have to adjust to playing with. Overall, fans didn’t expect him to move to South America for the next season, especially as he suggested he wanted to play for the “LCK, LCS, LPL, Academy League” next.

R7 bringing on a popular top-laner with plenty of experience may be what they need to continue being the top team in LLA. While the news is not yet confirmed, R7 are giving out small hints of a future announcement, similar to what FlyQuest did with Brandon “Josedeodo” Villegas.
