Tuesday marked the release of Apex Legends’ Evolution Collection event, and with it came seven event-exclusive skins for some of the game’s champions. These cosmetics are meant to “give a glimpse into what our Legends could become with time and technology on their side.” That more or less explains the mostly robotic/cyberpunk aesthetic these skins seem to have, though some execute on this better than others.

Since these cosmetics are new, we’ll save you the time of deciding which you want to save your Apex Coins for with our thorough and completely scientific* ten point rating system. Let’s see how these skins stack up.

*Rating system is thorough, but not at all scientific.

Bangalore: Solar Soldier

As far as these event skins go, this one is pretty mid. While the purple skin with circuit-like accents does look cool, the cosmetic itself still just kind of looks like Bangalore’s regular outfit, but with more silver. Overall, kind of a boring take on the theme.
Cost: 1800 Apex Coins or 2400 Crafting Metals.
Score: 3 out of 5

Octane: Peak Performance

I don’t know how to describe this one other than that it has extreme Ant-Man energy. This cosmetic has Octane fully suited up in white and orange armor, though notably, it’s still a crop top, a key component of Octane’s visual design. The suit is complete with a helmet and shoulder spikes that would be right at home in the MCU. We love a crop top king.
Cost: 1800 Apex Coins or 2400 Crafting Metals.
Score: 4 out of 5

Fuse: Cybernetic Payload

If Octane’s cosmetic gives him Ant-Man energy, then Fuse’s gives him enormous Terminator vibes. The Australian is shirtless, and the right side of his upper body is robotic, while his left eye has been replaced with a cybernetic one. The futuristic robot/antihero thing works for Fuse, though, making this skin a pretty solid one for him.
Cost: 1800 Apex Coins or 2400 Crafting Metals.
Score: 4 out of 5

Lifeline: Alabaster Titan

This skin gives Lifeline a monochrome makeover, fully covering her in silver armor with light blue and gold accents. The cosmetic gives her a robotic look, as even her face and signature buns are obscured by metal. Extending the skin to Lifeline’s hair and face is interesting, but that’s about all this skin has going for it in terms of novelty. Well that, and the little first aid kit she’s carrying looks like a Nintendo Switch case.
Cost: 1800 Apex Coins or 2400 Crafting Metals.
Score: 3.5 out of 5

Rampart: Cleanup Crew

Rampart’s look for this event feels inspired by her crafting persona, while also taking hazard wear into account. The champion has a helmet that strongly resembles a soldering mask, and is covered in bulky yellow armor that seems prime for OSHA compliance. In Cleanup Crew, Rampart looks ready to handle any futuristic business that comes her way, and I’m into it.
Cost: 1800 Apex Coins or 2400 Crafting Metals.
Score: 4.5 out of 5

Pathfinder: Elegant Mechanics

They made the robot a robot. Pathfinder just looks sleeker, and more obviously sci-fi than usual, but beyond that, a bot’s a bot, and that’s not very fun.
Cost: 1800 Apex Coins or 2400 Crafting Metals.
Score: 2.5 out of 5

Wraith: Neon Spectre

This costume makes Wraith look like she just walked off the set of a retro space opera. Her hooded jumpsuit has multiple accents of purple, pink and white, with rings around her neck area and wrists. Her skin has been painted alien blue, making her reminiscent of Avatar’s Na’vi or Mass Effect’s Asari. It captures a very specific vision of the future aesthetically, and nails it.
Cost: 1800 Apex Coins or 2400 Crafting Metals.
Score: 4.5 out of 5
